BTW way Crogo wasn't completely off with what he was saying.

I believe Mr Shulgin may be attempting to emulate his friend, the late lamented Shakespearean scholar Crogo, in his hilariously flawed attempts at improving grammatical accuracy on this board. |
Varieties of English
From around 1600, the English colonization of North America resulted in the creation of a distinct American variety of English. Some English pronunciations and words "froze" when they reached America. In some ways, American English is more like the English of Shakespeare than modern British English is. Some expressions that the British call "Americanisms" are in fact original British expressions that were preserved in the colonies while lost for a time in Britain (for example trash for rubbish, loan as a verb instead of lend, and fall for autumn; another example, frame-up, was re-imported into Britain through Hollywood gangster movies). Spanish also had an influence on American English (and subsequently British English), with words like canyon, ranch, stampede and vigilante being examples of Spanish words that entered English through the settlement of the American West. French words (through Louisiana) and West African words (through the slave trade) also influenced American English (and so, to an extent, British English).
Today, American English is particularly influential, due to the USA's dominance of cinema, television, popular music, trade and technology (including the Internet). But there are many other varieties of English around the world, including for example Australian English, New Zealand English, Canadian English, South African English, Indian English and Caribbean English.

I believe he was.
I'm perfectly happy to accept that both American and British versions of our language are correct, and I do not regard someone speaking a different version to myself as being 'illiterate'.
Crogo does.
Which makes Crogo an arrogant, ignorant fool. |

The best beer is whatever appeals to you, personally I found cold Zywiec to be ok as well as Tyskie, Okocim etc. but none of them exactly blew my mind. As to where to work, Warsaw has advantages as the capital but is expensive and has lots of people looking for jobs, ditto Krakow, you could try Lublin, Wroclaw, Lodz etc - Lodz has a huge amount of pubs but really it depends on what will keep you sane while you're in Poland. By the way most language schools that employ foreigners for decent money look for FCE / CAE / CPE classes from their Native Speakers to cover the bills, what can you offer here? |

Hi language professional, glad to see you think you are so important that you have to point out errors in other people's posts when yours is clearly not perfect. |
Oh very nice.... Even I'm amused! |

I agree.
Pointing out errors is just rude.
When someone takes pride in their knowledge of grammar of their native tongue I always have to wonder if they suffer from self-esteem issues.
Ragamuffin! |
Pointing out errors is what we do!
Anyway, it's a national past-time in Poland to correct people. |

While pointing out small errors might be petty, it is a Polish pastime. My Polish friends regularly remind me that it is't polite to say: 'Hey,...'
Anyway, on more important subject, I agree that 'Piwo Zywe' is best among all other excellent beers inclluding 'Slaski Ksiazence.'
Czech beer is great as well. |

Most teachers know the difference between internet boards and the classroom.
If you don't PM me and I'll explain this one to you.

Absolutely the best. Also doesn't give the nasty hangover that Zywiec does if you have 3+. |

Don't mean to be rude, but as I float around all the forums, for all the countries, I realise that sometimes people do tend to go off on a tangent, way off. This would be one such example. Did anyone ever answer the question aside from listing all the Polish beers? I think I may benefit from that answer as well. I appologize, I'm sort of lost after thinking of all that beer. Also, what is a CAE etc, please? And, what about her pets? I have a kitty too but have not taught abroad yet (only U.S., only ESL, about 3 years part time, at a community in Chicago, where most of my students were from Poland).
Thank you kindly
Chris |

Sorry Dan,
I meant, his pets. You see, there! I am already drunk after reading about all that beer. |
