2 years in Daegu, S. Korea.
3 years in Vancouver, Canada.
1+ years in Fukuoka, Japan.
I will probably be in Japan for about 2 more years, that is unless the job fairy flies my way and dishes out something spectacular. |

Dear dmb,
Gordon's quite right - NRA does indeed stand for the National Rifle Association ( an organization, I might add, that I detest ). They have a bumper sticker which says something like:
" If you want to take my guns you'll have to pry them from my cold, dead hands. "
Personally, that'd be okey-dokey with me.
Regards,
John |

Appropriate that the resident female geezer post soon after JohnS ---
This was a second career for me, but I did all my years in the Middle East:
3.5 yrs - Egypt (2 stays)
5.5 yrs - Oman (2 stays)
3.5 yrs - UAE
1.0 yrs - Kuwait
2.5 yrs - US (Adult Ed - TOEFL Prep - Business)
16 yrs total
Those years passed so quickly. Going overseas to teach was the best decision I ever made.
I've always like moving around, and I always taught academic English, normally writing, and also Business courses.
I'm now retired, but may very well teach again someday, but likely here in the US. I just can't take those long flights anymore. I'm afraid that confirms my geezerdom.
VS
(and I second John's dislike of the NRA ---) |

I have 11 years experience, mainly in Turkey. Or do I? Is that 11years experience where I have to tried to develop and become a better a teacher. Or do I have 11 X 1 year experience where I have done the same thing year in year out? |

Started by accident 17 years ago when I met my now closest friend, who had just arrived from China, at the airport. He was hopelessly lost and couldn't speak English so I helped him out. On and off over the years I taught a lot of his friends and both of his kids (my godchildren). While (corporate) working in Malaysia I agreed to teach a friend's family, who brought others. Spent 7 months there instead of 3 weeks because they were such great people. Been teaching in China since February 2001, but about half of that time has been in management/admin, which I loathe. |

I've been doing this since 1995, its really the only job I've ever had. I started in Ecuador, then went to Japan, and moved to Mexico in 1998, where I've been ever since. I've taught kids (as young as 3) and seniors, but most of my teaching has been to young adults. |

First lessons in 1990, then a gap for secondary French (high school)
And about 8 years since then. A bit of freelance and one heck of a lot of private lessons. |
