|
|
Hello,
I recently got a job in Poland, Ill be moving there in a few months. Ive gotten pretty straight answers to all my queries but this; what are the reputable/cheap high-speed internet providers? Do they have wireless? What are my options?
Thank you,
BRW |

I don't know the exact details, but it;'s widely available, reasonably cheap. Ask your school to get the landlord to sort it, you'll probably be fine with whatever they give you. |

It is alright: nothing like North American standards. The fastest is aster cable internet. However, many buildings are not supported. If the latter is the case, you have to go with TP. They suck. |

most poles seem to buy a cable tv, telephone and internet connection deal, unfortunately i don't know whether it's high speed or not. high speed infrastructure exists in most towns
this is one of the things you'll be finding out.
there are however, internet cafes everywhere, so access is no problem.
if you work where i'm working and get the same housing deal you'll have free high speed.
good luck |

Well as you're saying it: it must be wrong. And it is. The highest speed Aster city offer is 6mb/s and that is only from 2.00 to 10.00, rest of the time their fastest is 4mb/s. TP's Neostrada is up to 6144kb/s, that's 6.144mb/s and it is all day.
Nice to know that Neostrada suck. I've been using it for more than two years and have had exactly two problems, both due to modems burning out. They really suck.
Thespis3039: There is wireless but it's quite expensive and quite slow. You could try Blueconnect from Era if you really want wireless. Or 3G mobile phone service from Plus GSM. Neostrada starts at about 100 PLN per month for 128kb/s transfer and about 150 PLN for 512kb/s. |

Good old jerk Alex:
Here is why TP sucks: because if you download more than 15 gb per month, depending on the package, you are swiftly reduced to dial up speed (56K). My friends and I watch podcasts, download music and movies, etc. Doesn't take long. Most of the month it is dial up speed and there is nothing we can do about it.
Another concern: TP customer service sucks. One or maybe two guys at the call center speak english. You WILL need help to coordinate getting this thing up and running, from waiting in line at a TP center to getting your computer going.
Aster offers consistent performance and sometimes has a deal of the first 1-3 months being free if you sign on for a specified period of time. There customer service is excellent and they speak english well.
As for your speed numbers Alex, NO WAY you will get anywhere close to 6 mb/s with TP or even Aster. Those are theoretical maximums. Cable is the way to go for many, many technical reasons: you will get faster throughput than ADSL (TP through phone line) everytime - closer to the theoretical maximums. In fact, cable will be able to offer much higher throughput than ADSL. This has happened in North America (i.e. extreme cable internet). It is blazing fast and the phone companies cannot compete.

You mean that TP has a fair use clause? Good. Lucky for people who use the service fairly that we don't have people like you clogging up the service.

Guess you must have had more problems than me. I have never had any problems getting English-speaking help. But then I also managed to set it all up without calling for assistance, just clicked the 'install in English' button and away it all went.
Looks like you need to actually read that page:
ściąganie danych
do 4 Mb/s
do 6 Mb/s
od 2:00 do 10:00
Keep up the good work. |
