I would like the forums opinion about pursuing a Masters in Education
(Reading and Literacy) with goal of livng and teaching overseas.

I already have a Masters in Social Work, 5 years ESL experience as a writing specialist ( when I take the time to edit my work, LOL!).

I have mucho experience in counseling, non-profit work, community college teaching, program coordination but no degree directly related to education ( besides the counseling, which is more student services).

So what say you forum, would it be a worth while degree to pursue to add to my resume or just stick to the TESOL or LING path?

I have one. It's opened doors for me. However, I suspect in your case it would be overkill. You already have many excellent qualifications to attain any TEFL job you desire. Don't go horizontal with another Masters degree. Go vertical with a Doctorate. That's my next objective.

I don't agree that an M.Ed. or M.A. would be overkill. You don't have formal qualifications to do what you have been doing - and the better jobs will require that qualification. An MSW ain't an MATESOL.

Probably anything education related would be okay - but for maximum job possibilities - an MATESOL or Applied Linguistics degree would be best.

My DH is in the process of an MEd at the moment. He has worked in EFL abroad with just a CELTA, but the MEd will qualify him for a job at an international school (now that we have kids who need to go to school when we're abroad, too), not to mention for teaching in the U.S. when we get back. That may be a good reason for you to get one, too.
