*Ahem.*

I say that girls played no part in my considerations for moving to East Asia.

1999 Why I Did It List in Decending Order:

1) Money for student loans and grad school. (Student loan payments were immidiate and murder.)

2) Teach English as a Foreign Language. (Professionalism comes in just after survival).

3) Leave North America to...

4) Experience a different culture/learn a different language.

5) Everyone either supported me or opposed me. No one was ambivalent. So I knew I must have been on to something.

2002 Why I Did It List in Decending Order:

1) Teach English as a Foreign Languge outside the private sector.

2a) Relative stability so I could. . .
2b) do an MA

3) Get out of Japan before I went batty.

4) Experience yet another culture and langauge.

5) NOT return to North America.

Women? Nu? Onna? Des Femmes? Well, there are women on every corner of the planet (that I'll ever see, anyway.) Unless I go to Saudi Arabia (which I really can't yet anyway), it'll never be against the law for me to meet/talk to/date them.

Going to Asia to meet women is like going to the USA to buy a Coke. There might be a numercial superiority (1 000 000 000 Indians, 1 300 000 000 Chinese, 210 000 000 Indonesians, 126 000 000 Japanese . . . .) but you can find one anywhere.

Women, men and Cola Cola can be found the world over. Why would they be a factor for going to any particular place?

"Yeah, man, the soft drinks in Korea man, OH, they're like so awsome, man."

On the subject of more males in China than females, the following short story should give you some idea of at least one young 25 year old Chinese woman's... perhaps 'confidence' is the word I should use here.

She is a mainland Chinese, teaches English at university level, I met her in the dean's office (dean or some departmental head). Later she told me that the dean is "really impressed" by/with her.

She is dating a German fellow, (and while I was spending time with her she got at least two persistent phone calls from a Chinese fellow who she eventually excused herself so that she could spend time with him), who spent four months in China and is now studying a four-year bachelor's degree in Italy.

The German lad was here in China the other day spending time with his Chinese girlfriend. He asked me some question about "home", which I answered and returned his own question to him. He looked into her eyes, touched her hand and said, "Home" is here for me!

Lap it up baby, the world is your oyster!!

When I first came to China I liked the attention from women. I was single then and it seemed fun. After a while though the attraction started to wear thin. If you are not careful here the women just play games with you, tossing you around like a rag doll. I had a newly married woman and her best freind constantly over at my apartment when I first got to China. I didn't know she had just been married, as she didn't tell me. Later she told me, but then retracted the story. Ultimately I met her husband, which definitely settled the matter. I never touched the woman, but she sure led me on a merry little game. Evil or Very Mad

Now that I have a Chinese girlfriend, and I see the downside to inter-racial relationships, I tend to see all these beautiful Chinese gals as nothing more than eye candy. The game is wearing thin. This girly-girly cutesy thing really bores me senseless now. It seeemd cute at first, but just seems immature to me now.

Having said that the other options here aren't that great. Most of the Western women here are a rather terrifying option, a mottled collection of misfits. Which I guess pretty much describes the Western men too.

Thank God for China... Twisted Evil

If this isn't the biggest flame bait to go up here in the 6 years I've been visiting!!!! wow .....................- You're so accurate though!!!!
There are women at my place of work who DO NOT fit the description though. (but a couple definitely do) ! Confused

What's my criteria then?
....They're incompetent at what they're being paid to do! - pure & simple!

Good on ya E-Gas - yo the man!

Woz,

Yeah, guess I pretty much covered everybody with that insult. Just strapping on the flame-proof suit here...

No doubt I am, by implication, included in the above group of misfits. But if we fitted in back home, we wouldn't be here would we?

But you have to admit, there sure are some different types out here. Now that would make a good thread! Twisted Evil
