Have a look at this web site, it should be a reasonable starting point:

Hi Vallillo,

I'm not gay, but I lived in Florence. Among Italians, they say Florence is the center of the gay population in Italy, mostly men. (I've always said gay men have great taste, I guess I was right. Florence is my absolute favorite place on earth.)

Anyway, with me being a straight woman it's hard to say what life for gay people was like. However, I can tell you that the Italians seem to welcome pretty much everyone, just don't ever insult them or what they are selling you. The night life is great, the art - "forget about it!", the food is out of this world, the fashion is amazing and, you get to walk a lot which keeps you in great shape.

I think you should like Florence a lot. I couldn't say about the rest of Italy, but I would assume big cities are safer since people tend to be more open minded about that.

Let me know if you went and if you liked it.
Chris
