Is it just me, or are there a lot of Canadians enjoying the view from Dave's Cafe?

A former Vancouver Island hand is raised in the air to be counted in the Canuck head count... I'm in Turkey because somehow I can earn a better living teaching here than I could in Victoria... frightening, that. Shocked

Count me in.

What's your favourite movie about Canada?
Mine would have to be Bob and Doug's Strange Brew. Priceless eh? Then there's the one with John Candy and the SCTV crew about when the Americans invaded Canada at Niagra Falls. Hilarious. Can't recall the name of it.

Comedy: Canadian Bacon. "Wag the Dog" for Canadians. That's the movie you're thinking of.

Drama: Margret's Museum. The origional short story writer is the guy who had the final say in passing me as an honours student!

Camlica is the Turkish equivalent of Sprite or 7Up. The snow and evergreen-esque trees on it remind me of home though... and the colours befit both Turkey AND my homeland in Canuckistan. Very Happy

My vote is for Bob and Doug McKenzie!!!!

Did I ever mention that in one of my former employment incarnations I used to regularly sell Atom Egoyan's mother nutritional supplements in a vitamin/herbal remedy/etc shop in Victoria? Shocked

Best Canadian Movie: FUBAR. It really hits home. Growing up, I had a Terry and a Dean who lived down the street from me. All they would do is drink cheap beer and play street hockey Smile

Best Canadian TV Series: This is a tough one....off the top of my head I'd say Degrassi high, Kids in the Hall and Trailer Park Boys. Oh, and Danger bay. I used to love Danger bay.

Um, can a non-Canadian jump in here? Thanks. Anybody ever hear of/see the " Red Green Show " on PBS? I thought it was hilarious - but lacking the required background, I can't, of course, judge whether our Northern Neighbors thought it funny.
Regards,
John

The Red Green show is hilarious, although the newer episodes aren't nearly as good as the first couple seasons. I used to be Steve Smith's (Uncle Red's) paperboy back when I was a kid. What's funny is that how he acts on the show isn't a far stretch from how he is in real life. I remember he'd always be driving around on his front lawn in this beat up lawnmower...I swear half the machine was comprised of load-bearing duct tape! He was a hell of a guy...when I used to come around to collect he'd always have a new corny joke for me Smile

I always show my students Margaret's Museum. It really gives some insight into the local culture (was filmed in the town I am living in now), especially the local mining history, which has had a major impact on not only the culture but also the economy. The students get to hear the local twang and some expressions we use. They also get a smattering of Gaelic. Wink

Favourite Canadian TV program is Trailer Park Boys, hands down. I get such a kick out of that show. It is probably the most politically incorrect show in the history of television, but they really have some of the local, uh..."flavour" down pat. Laughing The show has a cult following in these parts (filmed near Halifax and the actors hang out in the city like "regular folks" Wink ...gotta love that).

Gotta love Rick Mercer and This Hour Has 22 Minutes, too. Very Happy

Bob and Doug were legends. Red Green makes me want to hurl. Laughing

The Red Green show. What a classic. I haven't seen it in a while (I think it was high school.)

"If the women can't find you hansome, then they should at least find you handy." Words for biffy to live by. Wink

This Hour Has 22 Minutes is how I got my news in University. More realistic and less opinionated than Fox. . . .
