philbags (or anyone else) can i ask which visa you decided to apply for.

I dont know whither to just apply for a 60-90 day tourist visa (multiple entry) or for a 90 multiple entry non-immigrant ED visa (although as the celta is only for one month they may not grant me that).

Just not sure which one i should apply for.

Depending on where you apply you won't get the ED mate as it's not a 'proper' university and thus isn't 'enough' for a Non-imm ED!

How long will the activation period be good for on the multiple tourist Visa? As if it's only 3 months only two entries are usable.

PM me and I might be able to help, although your provider should really advise you accordingly.

Hey sorry it took a while to get back to you mate - I was jetlagged for a couple of days then drunk for a couple more. pretty good fun akshurly - ate my first scorpion the other night.
I came in on a 60 day tourist VISA issued in person from the embassy in london. All very straightforward - dropped off the forms, photos and passport on friday - picked it up on tuesday.
The visa can be extended in situ once for 30 days and you cant ( technically) work on it but of course you can do the CELTA I wouldnt have thought youd have any problem doing the course then getting a job in that time frame.
Anybody else got any thoughts?
Personally ive got a job lined up in China in a week or so.
All the very best to you.
P.

Yo man , Hows it hangin? Feels like I've been seeing that dancing webhead around for ever! you sure youre new to this?
I can get drunk with impunity - Ive got 7 solid years teaching behind me. WooHoo! be doing a DELTA before too long in fact.
Well, I came in on a one way ticket with a tourist visa no problem; theres NO clear indication on the Royal Thai website that you must have one and they didnt ask to see a ticket when i bought the VISA or when i entered the country. still, its your call.
I'm staying at ASHA guest house - its pretty far away from the backpacker strip which is both good and bad - there's more company around the Khoa san road if youre travelling alone ( and wanna hang aroung with 23 year olds from manchester on their way back from a full moon magic mushroom party) but then its a bit cheaper to stay ( 400B/night - aircom ) and has a pool (bigger than a bath). Actually I just bumped into one of my very best mates who I hadnt seen for 4 years down on the Khoa san road ( on his way back from a full moon magic mushroom party) so it pays to get around.
Are you going to give yourself a week or so to adjust here before starting the CELTA?
All the best mate
P.

Sounds like your having fun xD

...and yes im tragically new to this..thats why you see the dancing webhead around so much! If i was pro, i'd be quiet. Im after all the help and info i can get, heh. Wink

I'll arrive on the 26th Oct in Bangkok and will spend a few days there, then head up to Chiang Mai around the 4th Nov in time for my course starting. I may go from Bangkok to somewhere else, not sure where yet, just playing it by ear for now. Very Happy

great man, its a fantastic job this efl business in my humble opinion.
I dont really take holidays so much anymore - its enough to just go get a new gig somewhere new. I met one or two people that didnt take to it but I think generally most of the teachers I've met were glad they got into it.
And the people you meet.... I couldnt even begin to talk about the diverse ,interesting and simply wierd characters I've run into (and I'm sure that I could be included in there too actually).
Enjoy the course and if you want to shoot the shite on any of that there methodology I'm all ears - i love to talk shop.
you'll find me here, or on the Indonesia or china forums
