I have heard all kinds of contrasting information. What is the deal with a teacher that completes their contract, but chooses to not continue with their employer in Oman? Is it true that you still have to get a release letter to move to another employer? If you don't get the release, are you indeed banned for two years? Once again, let me emphasize that I completed my contract. I didn't quit before the contract ended. About 4 months after completing my contract, another employer contacted me for an interview. Just to put everything out in the open, I informed them of my situation and they seemed to think that as long as I completed my contract, they would not have a problem hiring me. However, I never heard from them again. So will someone tell me what exactly is the policy for those who have completed their contract and left Oman. Can I come back before the two-year period? Maybe I shouldn't include this, but I have heard that if one loses their passport and gets another Wink , then they can reenter Oman and avoid the two year ban. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have heard from several sources that the law is about to change - if an employee completes the initial contract, gives the agreed notice period and as long as the sponsor is not pursuing a legal case against the employee then a NOC will not be required.

The change in the law has yet to be announced but I believe it is expected ths month.

It will be a real change for the better.

Re the fingerprints - I have heard this before but surely it would show up when you went to be fingerprinted for your visa - especially with new system where you collect your Resident's Card after your thumb print has been recognised. Don't think I would take the chance personally.

Any further news on this topic?

I know someone in Oman whose company has employed people this year without a release letter. It seems the law has changed but it has been kept hush-hush! Question

One friend recently told me that a lawyer had told her that a release letter was not required if the contract had been completed.

Another told me a story of chasing up a release from a sponsor so that someone could transfer (the person wasn't a teacher or European).

Maybe the rule varies according to occupation and nationality?

No it's no longer in effect. I've just returned under new employment and I did not receive a release letter.
