I know it's not related to teaching but,like breakfast, I couldn't resist bringing it up.Are the madcaps of California really going to elect an oversized,woman fondling,Nazi sympathiser(allegedly) as their governor?I suppose we'll have Brad Pitt running for pres in 2026 with Buffy the Vampire Slayer as his running mate......

It's a conspiracy to get the entire cast of Predator elected to high office.

It wouldn't be the highest up that a Hollywood actor has gone . . . .

I wonder: does being a great actor make for a great leader. I mean, Hamlet seemed to know a lot about acting, but . . . well . . . I doubt he would have been a collossal king.

Then again, it's no better or worse than mistaking, say, oil money or a prestigious family for leadership ability . . . .

Why not? They elected another " B " movie actor governor, and yet another one ( George Murphy ) senator. They also elected a maverick, left-leaning liberal, Jerry Brown governor. What can I say - it's the Weird State. If Mickey Mouse ran for office, he'd probably win.

I know that the rest of the world is laughing (or I assume that it is, because this whole recall situation is pretty asinine), but California is my home!! I cannot even begin to describe the dread I feel at the prospect of having Mr. Terminator govern my beautiful state. Crying or Very sad

Arnold is no Nazi sympathizer. He went to great lengths to determine, once and for all, if his father Gustav was a SS agent. I think he was suspicious of this for some time, as he and his father were very distant. Arnold actually skipped his dad's funeral. Arnold has spoken out against Joerg Haider several times. Many of his lifelong friends are Jewish, including bodybuilder Mike Katz who used to be in the Jewish Defense League. Where did you hear these allegations?

The womanizer thing is true though. Arnold has never had much respect for the female gender. In his book, "The education of a bodybuilder" there is a quote which, paraphrased, is "women are toys for sex that get in the way of your dreams" Shocked

Aside from that, I have a lot of respect for "The Oak". He came to the US with nothing but motivation and discipline, and has since won 6 Olympia titles, has amounted unbelievable wealth, has married into one of the most prominent families in the US, has started several programs for disadvantaged youth, has donated an incredible amount of time and money to the special olympics, and has made it his mandate to wipe out childhood obesity. He's also incredibly bright...something which he rarely gets credit for.

Well, it's really the only thing anyone needs anywhere - in a democracy, kingdom, republic ( which is actually what the USA is ), socialist or communist nation, etc.

As a side story, I live in the state where J�rg Haider is the governor. He shows up at every cafe and smalltown event and I think that's part of the reason people like him here. He's charming and suave. Of course this is not an excuse.

Last weekend I attended a small festival in a neighbouring village of about 200 people. I was sitting in the beer tent enjoying my beverage when who should stroll in but J�rgi himself! He walked over to the bar flanked by his security and ordered a beer right beside me. I always said if I ever met him personally I would not shake his hand. However, as he greeted me and said "gr�ss gott", I turned into a babbling idiot impressed by a bit of celebrity (or infamy I should say). I smiled and blushed as he asked, "Ver are you coming from?". How pathetic of me.
