I only have a provisional licence for the UK and have been looking into intensive driving courses. Thing is they are awfully expensive! I was wondering if it is possible to take a driving test (lessons too?) in thailand instead?
I would also like to be able to drive in philippines when i visit if poss, so wonder if some kind of thai licence would be accepted.
Part of me thinks that i would need to be a thai resident to get a thai licence tho, so may not be possible.
The UK driving lessons are crazy expensive, and I wont even be driving here..bah. Is there any other alternative? |

There are such courses here - and I imagine they would cost significantly less than in the UK. But - they are probably conducted in Thai.
Be aware though - that driving courses here will include some "extras" such as:
Driving 5B: Driving and Parking on Sidewalks - how to increase the efficiency of your transport
Driving 101: Clearing the Road Ahead - how to honk those pesky pedestrians out of the crosswalk
And those are just in the "basic" program. |

A girlfriend of mine, who lived in Pattaya was going for a her motor bike license and we found one of the questions amusing, although scary.
How many people can you put on a motorbike, now we all thought ok its thailand so we will say 3 people. It turned out to be 5!
God I hope they changed that ruling!
I'd hate to even attempt to navigate my way through one of those tests.
I drove for 5 years in Thailand, but I wouldn't recommend it, especially motor bikes. Locals in Pattaya used to call the tourists on bikes, TT's temporary tourists, meaning, they would end up either dead or home injured quick!
Taxi's are not that expensive! |
