I want to make my demo lesson fun with a game or a song or both if possible. The thing is, if they're singing or playing a game, they're not having a conversation; they're not talking to each other. On the other hand, if they're just talking to each other, they're probably not having as much fun as I'd like to make the lesson. How do I get them to talk to each other and have a lively, fun lesson?

Well, I'm preparing to give a demo lesson when I go to interview with the eikaiwa. From what I've read, they mostly ask you to give a demo lesson to younger students; say beginner to intermediate.

I guess you're preparing a demo for a kids lesson...

Ordinarily in a lesson, you would have a variety of activities. You would have listening and speaking activities, TPR activities and you may also include songs.

I'm assuming that the demo is only about five or ten minutes long. The main thing that they want to see is how you teach and that you are actually able to teach. I would prepare a plan for the entire lesson indicating all the activities that you would do and the steps that you would take but for the demo itself just extract ten minutes worth of that plan. It's probably best for the demo to present some language point or vocab, ellict what you can from the students and then get them to practice that language point.

Thanks for the advice. However, it doesn't answer my question. I was asking how I can give the "kids" the kind of fun and active lesson the interviewers like to see and still have them talking to each other instead of to me. I don't want to play game show host or song leader if it doesn't count as conversation.

I just realized there's a bunch of good lesson ideas in the idea cookbook. Why didn't I notice this before? Why didn't anybody point that out? There some good stuff in there.
