Hi Folks!
I was wondering how much you guys think I should charge for private lessons here. I have a CELTA-equivalent qualification, a university degree, and a year and a half of experience teaching. I was thinking of doing a sliding scale for students and professionals.
Any thoughts? Much appreciated. |

Best bet is to ask other local teachers. You don't want to undercut the general market rate, otherwise all teachers lose: solidarity brothers and sisters!
It may also depend of the nature of the work and the amount of preparation involved, whether you are going to teach small groups or 1-2-1, amount of travel etc. I don't particularly want to teach unmotivated teenagers so I'd quote more for them, and wouldn't mind if I didn't get the work!
Possibly better to start higher, and then give loyalty discounts, than start low and try the difficult task of increasing rates. |
