Hi all,
the question says it all. I'm a non-native English speaker currently pursuing the CELTA at the ECC in Siam (BKK) and so far I've found two interesting employers: the ECC and the Fun International English Language School (near Thong Lo BTS station). They both offer the standard salary of 30 000 Baht per month, (the ECC offers half of the cost of the CELTA course on the completion of a one year contract). At the ECC there is a lot of work and you work 6 days a week - I still don't know about Fun International.

So, if anyone of you had this choice, which would you choose and why? Anyone familiar with working for any or both of these institutions?

Thank you al in advance.

^ Hi Alexandros

I haven't worked for either school, so all I can do is offer some general advice.

ECC is a large chain with 50 branches. As such, individual experiences may

vary depending on the particular branch one may have worked for.

At Fun Language International, it's pretty much the same situation.

In addition to their Bangkok school, they have contracts

with 45+ schools; meaning you can end up at

a good school ... or a not so good one.

About the best thing you can do is to talk to a teacher

who is currently at the branch you're considering;

easier said than done, but it's still worth a try.

During the interview stage, the manager or DOS might say,

"We'd like to put you in our XYZ Branch in Tuktukville."

You reply, "Great! I'm so excited, blah blah blah ...

Do you think it would be possible for me to

chat with a teacher who works there?"

Manager, "Sure! Here's John's E-mail address."

--------> Consider that a positive sign.

If he says, "Geez, I'm so sorry but I can't do that."

--------> Consider it a possible red flag.

You can also spend an hour or 2 scanning

the TEFLWatch Thailand Forum.

You don't need to register

to read the posts.

I'll check it out and see. Maybe I'll try at AUA, they may pay more there. From what I hear there is more work in the ECC because unlike AUA they are a business interested in making money. The facilities of AUA are far better, though this may not matter too much for me. On the other hand, at the ECC your day off is Friday which is convenient if you have things to do.

I don't know, I'll see...not enough time to search...for the time being I'm searching for an appartment close to any BTS station because I have to move out at the end of the month!

Thanx Smile
