hello friends,

Does anyone know of any schools who may be recruiting on the pacific coast of Mexico? I want to live on the coast to teach English and surf. I would consider Costa Rica and Nicaragua too.

Thanks

Too bad you didn't ask a month or so ago. We just hired some new teachers, and there's pretty good surfing here on the coast.

If I could offer some advice: don't advertise that you're looking to surf. Schools might hire teachers that happen to surf, but they don't want to hire surfers that happen to teach. I'm not saying this to knock surfing, but you will encounter that prejudice.

My suggestion would be to select areas that have good surf, and then approach the schools in those areas without mentioning the surfing.

I doubt you would have enjoyed the west coast of Mexico recently. We have had back-to-back hurricane happenings. The latest, Hurricane Lane, just ripped past us overnight and today, dumping mega water and throwing around trees, satellite dishes, signposts, palapas and the like. Even the most die-hard surfers don't hang ten in this stuff! Our hurricanes are, however, planned perfectly around weekends so we don't miss any school. What's that about?

Not down here in Oaxaca. Some showers, a few of them even heavy, but that's it.

Seems to be the year for west coast hurricanes, no? After last year, I'm sure the southeast appreciates the break.

I hardly noticed it was September without a hurricane. 12 days left in the month and a big Atlantic hurricane is coming. If (when) it comes into the Caribe, the party is over.

We had a beautiful cloudless weekend with little wind. High pressure is nice, but scary in September. The Gulf was like a mirror, always a bad sign.

The school's weather station reported 89% humidity this morning, another bad sign.
