HAve any of you rascals or rascal-ets ever taught for the British Council. What do you think of this organization. I've heard good things as in they're very reputable, teachers are well supported and the like.
Also IH for that matter. I'm thinking of moving on in the next 6 months... 3 years in china 'i got itchy feet!!!'
I know there's a lot on this site about various international language schools ie EF, Web etc.. How do BC and IH compare?

It is ok
if you like to be told how to teach
by someone who thinks they know
because they 'did' the programme
I have not worrked for BC but unbderstand their house styke is a little restrictive.
IH less said ..i have worked for them |

IH is a franchise so you can get very good employers and absolutely putrid ones.
BC centres are operated independently so pay varies. |

As does attitude. I completely disagree with what Will says about house style. Just at IH has its differences across their schools, so does BC. |

I've been with the BC for 18months now and have to say that it is certainly one of the better places I've worked. Ok, so the salary isn't the highest in the area but on the plus side I have finally got round to getting a pension sorted out, having medical insurance, a decent housing allowance, have trained up as an ESOL and IELTS examiner and done my DELTA and CELTYL (though the latter wasn't really through choice). I also have support if I feel like presenting at various TEFL conferences (hmmm thinking about that one), decent holidays (ish) and am working with great people.
It does of course depend on where you're working but I would guess that standards are pretty much the same in most BCs - not everything is perfect but where would you find that? |

They got a good website with lots of useful info on lessons and teaching in general.
Look like a good bunch to me. |

At the BC here in Istanbul. The teachers and managers are generally quite snobbish. They look down on other teachers and think they are superior. Is this the case in other centres? |
