|
|
Has anyone been able to secure a teaching job on a WHV? Especially in Italy but anywhere really. I've been searching various websites for some personal experiences but haven't found anything recent so it's time to start posting on forums to see what people say. By the time I go I will have the CELTA, a years' worth of experience and a degree in linguistics (and hopefully some decent skills in Italian). I'll meet all the criteria for a WHV as well. I'd appreciate hearing of others' stories. |

Have you checked the situation for your home country and Italy? I may be incorrect but although I know that there are reciprocal agreements between the UK and Canada/Australia for example WHVs aren't universally available.
I understood that the US does not allow them, and accordingly there are no reciprocal agreements. Can anyone else confirm? Either way I'd probably do a bit more research regarding your own personal situation. |

I would have thought saying "I meet all the criteria for a WHV" implied that my country (Australia) did have a WHV agreement with Italy. I have found posts on this forum which suggest that a lot of Italian employers weren't aware of the WHV or what it meant, but I'm hoping now they've been around a bit longer I will have more luck. I also found a post asking the same question as mine, but it was back in 2004 and never got a reply. I'll be going to visit the consulate soon but since I want a WHV for the specific purpose of teaching English I thought I would also ask people in this field what their experiences were.
Thanks for anyone's advice. |

Sorry for the scepticism - must have been on this board too long.
Can't help I'm afraid, but I doubt if Italian employers have got any better over the last few years. (That reminds me I must phone up to chase pay I'm due.) Good luck, but you'll have to make most of the running yourself, I suspect. |
