I received my Visa today, and it was a happy day until I watched the news. |

Personally, I wouldn't change my plans. I live here and I'm not worried.
Certainly wouldn't change plans based on the sketchy reporting going on anyway.
Don't let it wreck your day - it hasn't wrecked mine! |

Apparently the OP didn't see pictures/video of Thai people giving garlands of flowers and other gifts. Or Thai women posing with soldiers (and the standard Asian peace sign)... I'll be there in a week. No worries at all |

Rather interesting appoach to the topic...."Dammit, WHY NOW?"
Are you guys allowed to talk about it?
I am amazed how little attention is paid to the actual coup. I'm sure soldiers love those lovely girls "in their laps"....
In China, there's a great deal of attention to this news, however the US, Canadian sites do not carry much about it. I wonder WHY.
How are you guys effected in Bangkog, since the military has taken over there? Can you at least share that on the forum?
Peace
and
cheers and beers to the hard working FTs

Would everone scream, if the coup happened in States, UK or Canada?
Opps...is the Thai general reading this site? |

^ No effect whatsoever.
See the "What's going on in Bangkok post???"
just a few threads below this one.
It's business as usual here.

Not a shot was fired in the coup and the streets of Bangkok were quiet with very little military presence except around Government House and nearby army headquarters. reposted from Reuters 21.9.06 |

If this is someones first trip to Thailand, I would suggest postponing a little while. Not because of any threat of violence but because this is a beautfiul country with wonderful people and soldiers standing guard on each street corner is not what someone should first view about this country. Some countries I have been to it is common for soldiers and police to patrol the cities with machine guns but Thailand is not like that. I just personally don't think that a person's first impression of this country should be while it is under martial law. |

Maybe seeing a country under martial law but in a such a calm manner (as such) would be an enlightening experience for a visitor.
An eye opener anyway.Possibly. |

Enlightening indeed seeing a tank with a soldier on it aming that machine gun on the street .... ohh, knowing that this soldier's leading the country....
The "calm manner under martial law" is rather interesting there...but wouldn't many be calm looking into that "barrel" that's loaded ... AN EYE OPENER .... Thai people have a good experience with this kinda situation there
Frankly, I would not go there now or tomorrow, however I contemplated a couple of years ago.
Peace to Thailand
and
cheers and beers to FTs there |

If we where to just get our info from CNN and BBC etc, we would be afraid to go to many places. I always seek my information from people who are on the ground and or live there. In this case, I have many Thai friends, all of which are very happy about this and are thanking the heavens for getting rid of this corrupt leader.
I'm flying back in next week, with my daughter and am not worried one bit.
Its a good thing, not a bad thing.
Cheers |
