Reading the OP, I'm actually a little surprised. I guess I don't live in HK so I didn't get much of this when I went to visit, but after living on the mainland, I always thought HK was like a breath of fresh air. That may sound weird to you HKers, but living over here in the stagnant air and daily idiocy can really change your perception of the world. I recommend it to everyone at least once...that is, only once... |

What? It looks like my original response to young Mr. WnF was deleted. So it appears that calling others crackheads and idiots is okay, but pointing out one's juvenile language use and reliance on childish clipart is off limits. In which case, I guess the most I can say to Mr. WnF is, "back at ya, amigo."
Mydnight, don't take the OP's story too literally. HK is not a bad place, and events as described, assuming they contained factual elements, are few and far between. So much so that I've never seen nor experienced it. Now, if you want to talk about the problems faced by Filipino and Indonesian maids, that's entirely different, and a real blemish on HK. |

Oh wait, I am confused...
How is that different? Racism is racism, is it not? Or is only racism when it applies to people who aren't white? So after claiming HK is a racism-free, blissful society of friendly people you do admit to the existence of racism? Oh, perish the thought! I guess we have shot ourselves in the foot with a misleading and incorrect statement.
I am a NET, and having assisted with the hiring of other English teachers for several schools I certainly do recognise the existence of racism in hiring NETs. Of course, there are some among us who, for reasons that often include rejection and self-hate, come to HK and look at it through rose-colored glasses - i.e- everything HK = good
everything not HK = bad.

Yes, that would be a correct observation (Congratulations!). Unfortunately for someone of your presumably extensive years you exhibit offensive and immature, crude traits that include making posts that are very personal. [/code] |
