The make-up has changed a bit...almost seems like there are more Canucks posting these days. Probably because winter is approaching...
Where are we all from? |

The school I work at will have 17 English instructors this coming semester: 4 Americans, 4 Canadians, and 9 Brits. We've tried recruiting native speakers from other parts of the world but with little success. In the two years I've been here we've only had one South African; no Aussies, Kiwis, etc.

mmmm, thank's for the category, I think. At least I know I'm not alone.
For the record, here in Mexico I have worked with teachers from (drum roll please) The US, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Uganda, Jamaica, and Texas (yes, it's that different ). |

My list is the same as MELEE's if you take away Uganda and add Holland and Cuba . . . and Mexico, too, of course.
I'd also like to thank Guy for that special category shared by at least three of us who post on the Mexico / Latin America forums. |

Iowa is like the fourth rock circling the sun around here. I know there are more.
Add Cubans, Nigerians, Ivory Coasters, Germans, and Argentines to Melee's list for me. |

Alright! Add one New Zealander! Unfortunately my vote only counted until July this year, since I've just moved to Australia. Would do just about anything for a styrofoam tray of tacos at the moment. I was one of two foreign teachers out of 20 english teachers at my old school in Mexico. |

i put iowa since it's practically the same thing.
when outside the US, i'm always from chicago. saying you're from "near chicago" to indicate indiana just doesn't work, as people will immediately want to know how you like living in chicago. and i usually tell them i love it and get there about twice a year. |

Hey, they also call it the Garden State. I guess the Armpit State wouldn't look good on official letterhead. |

I was born in Mexico but grew up in Texas.
I consider myself a native English speaker, yet I am 100% Mexican. |

ji ji ji... forgot about that one Matt
2 reasons... 1) the NJ that most ppl see is heavily industrialized and polluted (much like Toluca where I am now sheesh! My boss told me the other day it must be my karma to live in places like this) and 2) if you look at a map of the US, New England stretches up like an arm so if you follow the coastline down to the "body" (starting around Delaware)..... |

Guy,
Canuck is pretty perjorative. Muskie would have been prez if Chuck Colson hadn`t slipped that little tidbit into a Down East newspaper. It`s almost as bad as the N word.
I was born in Mystic Connecticut, lived fifteen years in Beantown and fifteen in Atlanta and am currently in Merida, so after descending in the alphabet I am back on a rise. |

Never heard that before...Canucklehead is about the most pejorative I've ever seen it used, and that's mostly Don Cherry speak. Must depend on how you want to use it. North o' 49, we have a few interesting ways to use Yankee ourselves, eh?
Oh, but look at this for a web definition of canuck
http://www.answers.com/topic/canuck
Quote: |
The use of "Canuck" parallels that of some other potentially offensive nicknames, that is, when used by the people it names Canadians in this case it is usually acceptable. But when used by an outsider in this case particularly American strangers it can be easily misinterpreted and deemed as insulting one's heritage. |
No Canadian wrote that...and to think Answers.com is edukatin the next generation. |
