|
|
Sorry for the complete randomness of this question but what's the average commute time between Taksim and mraniye (Ataturk Cad) on public transport?
I'm talking out of rush hour, late evenings etc. |

You would be lucky to get a commute time of one hour. I figure hour and a half. |

A long time ago I spent 6 months commuting on IETT buses across Bogaz. It was a nightmare-especially in the winter. |

I used to do that and always reckoned that you had to leave Kadıky before 6.30 to stand any chance of getting across the bridge. Much better to use the seabus of ferry to cross in the mornings.
I had a weird flashback of finishing work in Kadıky evenings and getting the bus back to Pendik. I used to really enjoy bombing along on the bus between 9a nd 10 and then having a good few beers back in Pendik as I didn't have to get up early. (not that that would have stopped me) Those were great days. Long live English Fast. |

would that be in the Jazz cafe.
As the Pendik branch was winding down before closure I was doing an evening class in Mecidiyekoy but still living in Pendik. No public transport though. I got to use that taxi that the pendik branch always used. I can't remember the guys name. But he was great. He used to take us away to places like Sile at the weekend and fudge the bills to Nazif. He was none the wiser. the driver got more money and we had free transport at the weekend. |

Jazz cafe? Have you lost your mind? I was "earning" 13 million a month plus what little extras I could get. I usually drank at home. Jazz cafe charged 50 000 a beer and the beers always looked suspiciously less than half a litre. I did however go to one of the seafront bars that was a bit rough but you got a full beer for 25 ooo.
There was no taxi driver that I remember.
Who ran the tiny little canteen? Was it a bloke with a strange facial skin problem who spoke a bit of English and would make special tea?
Oh God those days-I miss them so much. It seemed like anything was possible. |

Bahri? springs to mind.
There was that men's place next to Jazz. When the girls wanted to go to the loo the waiters had to hold up a curtain in front of the 'doorway' to the loo.
we actually got cheap drinks at Jazz because the owners fancied the 2 female teachers.(this is after Liz left) |

I remember the story about Tom and Liz who hated each other but because of the boredom were drinking together when 2 Russian sailors turned up. Anyway they both went back to the sailors' ship and did them. |
