"The committee's comments came as British officials in Turkey said they were seeking urgent clarification from the authorities about the continuing detention of a British artist.

Michael Dic.kenson was arrested in Istanbul 10 days ago, accused of insulting the dignity of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Mr Di.ckenson had displayed a poster in which he had superimposed Mr Erdogan's head onto the body of a dog held on a leash representing the US flag."

I knew a teacher who built a lesson on reported speech around Apo, the (ex?) PKK leader. I think she was lucky that noone ratted her out...Am I paranoid? Michael Di.ckenson wouldn't say so.

My big question is: Did this guy manage to save his job?!

Tekirdag, I'd say jail anywhere would be unpleasant, not just in Turkey.

It never ceases to amaze me.... the unnecessary problems that other foreigners make for themselves here.

This gentleman was no newcomer to these climes. He must have known the potential consequences of his actions.

Yeah still, it's pretty funny.

Even if he is doing it to spark controversy, what's wrong with that?

Nah, there's nothing like that. He's done no worse than mouthy yanks moaning loudly in cafes or pissed Brits singingly loudly in squares. Plus who is going to judge us on this? Show me the Turk who thinks taking the piss out of Tayip is a bad thing and I'll show you one who doesn't like westerners anyway.
