Anyone know anything about EF Makassar (Suluwesi)? They're advertising, and the pay is lousy but otherwise they present well. I'd just like to know if anyone knows anything about them. I'm looking for a lifestyle thing rather than a fortune (as if), and could probably live with the pay if everything else was OK. Any coments?

Take a look through the posts: the DOS of that school took a rather humiliating hammering on here a few months ago Cool

Also be aware that local cultural sensitivities in Makasar are fairly acute at the best of times. I'm not warning anyone against living there - that would be excessively paranoid - but if you've never lived in Asia before, and in particular never in a strongly muslim area, then you'd be on a steep learning curve initially.

As TP says, the DoS from that school came on this forum a while back but was very elusive about terms and conditions so we really don't know what the package is.

Very interseting place..................lived and worked there for 5 years out of a University on the way to the airport (UNHAS)

Was there in troubled times as well. Muslims can be somewhat different. Chinese businesses are predominant. Nightlife is sketchy................good girls should all be home by 10pm and thats a bit late.

Not many foreigners and those that are there are on their way to Tana-toraja. Eat a lot of fish...................hot as hell

You need to be resilient or you will despise the place. Speaking Bahasa will definatly help eventhough local languagues the Makassrese use and the Bugis people use. Religious tensions are always felt

Have fun and stay sober..............westerners and their"free attitude" is sometimes snarled upon. Saving face is the way to go

Unless you're mute, speaking bahasa is pretty much a given. Wink
