In answer to the OP,
we live in Umraniye.
Yes, they have stuck the IKEA store out here, and is slowly being "yuppified"/gentrified. all the new buildings are "Super Lux!!!"
this doesn't change the fact, Umraniye is really. really. really far away from everything! Everything.

My house cleaner lives in Ortakoy, she takes the ferry to Uskadar, and then a direct bus here, and it takes her 2 hours. And, the bus from here to Usukar only runs once an hour, even at rush hour.

I am racking my brains trying to think of what would be out here in the boonies to make it worth the communte? Eyupoglu? there are a lot of dershanes with ads that say they have real-live Yabanci teachers, but I nver believed them, are they true?

At any rate, the commutee will have lots of time to relax, list to thier music, and read many many many books fo their choice. Think of it as "me" time. Smile
good luck, and may the force be with you.

Don't you find it ironic that your cleaner lives in Ortaky whereas you live in mraniye?

No, she lives in a 1+1 with 3 other women who have all left thier families behind to come here.
I live in a big big sunny house with stairs, close to nice schools for my kids, and my husbands office.

Umraniye is very very very far away from many things, but close tho the things I use everyday. Works for me.
