I'm new, new, new, new to operating in Istanbul, and I have a bad dose of Istanbelly, so I'm not functioning too well, but what's the best way to buy a ticket from IST to Washington DC for the end of Ramazan? I know, I know, go online, but I need to pay cash. I call the local BA number and get some woman who hangs up on me; call Swiss, same deal, call Lufthansa, the number doesn't work. Should i just rock up to an airline office? Or is there a travel agent in the Taksim area who speaks reasonable English and can do it all for me?

This is a bit urgent as the prices are going up as I write. Darn, I hate not being able to function effectively. Turkish classes, girl, Turkish classes.

You'll find travel agents in Sultan Ahmet who speak English. Just walk down the main drag there and you'll easily find them.

Going directly to an airline office could work but you'll pay full price, no deals.

In the meantime, 3 bad phone calls? Are you sure you're dialing correctly?

the Engl;sh-language dailies have ads from travel agents selling discounted tickets.

For backpackers, derelicts, students.......................and EFL teachers.

But then if you are an EFL teacher maybe you are too poor to buy a paper ?

No, it's not at all a matter of economics. I bought the paper but used it to deal with my case of Istanbelly before I got a chance to read it. Wipe, wipe, darling.

Allo,

I would really like to find a discount or transferring airline (stopping in Germany or France would be fine) doing a return ticket to London from Istanbul on Oct. 21st, returning on the 26th? Anyone know of a decent airline for recommendation?

Please let me know, private message is fine

Thanks

EasyJet - do they have an office at Ataturk airport, could I buy through there? I also found through searching a fairly cheap ticket going through SwissAir to Heathrow through Zurich, returning by Austrian airlines... if I don't have a credit card (by choice) are there other ways to purchase these tickets - the websites don't seem to offer other means than credit card (or debit), and most of my friends are doubtful about using credit cards online.
