You're missing the point Ironopolis, sorry.

No, you just disagree with me or have had a different experience. Which I don't have a problem with. I've never for a moment claimed my HIS experience was the definitive one, I just wanted to point out to people who might be using this thread to make up their mind, that the negative ones weren't necessarily what was going to happen to everybody.

You have misunderstood why I mentioned the welcome card, although as it's drifiting away from the original topic (my fault for bringing it in, I know), I'm not going to go over it again. Also I never really said my friend who worked for HIS gave me "inside info" as you put it. I just mentioned his opinion on certain related aspects. And anyway, I'm certain what he said to me was said as a friend rather than as a representative of HIS. HIS may not be whiter than white, but I don't think they've cheated me, and even if they have, I'm still happy with what I've had for my money. End of - got better things to worry about!

ironopolis, I realize you are just stating your opinion, and I'm glad you got good service, but I think what people, including me, are taking issue with is that you seem to be ignoring the principle of this thing, which in this case is a policy by HIS of racism, in its application of different fares based on a person's birth. I think it is not even a matter of speaking Japanese, because in some cases HIS charged the extra, even when the ticket had been booked by a Japanese helper. So, even IF you have friends at the agency, AND you are getting okay service, they are doing wrong with this policy, AND we hope you realize that that is not okay, and stand with us in supporting CHANGE for that policy, because racism is *wrong* and supercedes individual cases.

No, J, I'm quite well aware of the principles some people feel they need to apply in this case, and I think I mentioned that before, together with the reason why I viewed it differently. I'm sorry, but I'm not repeating or re-explaining things I've send before. If, as appears likely, you've misunderstood something I've said, that's too bad, but I'll guess I'll get over it.

I've spent too long on this thread as it is, so you'd have to PM to take it any further. And, given the nature of some of the language you've directed at me above, there's a fair chance you'd be wasting your time with that as well. Anyway, have a nice weekend.

Ironopolis,

Considering your friend is a manager at HIS, maybe you could help me? I got SCREWED over big time by NO 1 Travel in Sakae, Nagoya. I booked a trip to China and India (flights only) with the company and am planning on pursuing a legal case against them to STOP them ripping off foreigners. I had booked my original flights to leave Japan on July 29 however fell sick and was hopsitalised so I wasn't able to leave the country until Aug 1. I paid the cancellation fee, extra tax and additional charges as requested. No problems thus far. I also told the guy re-booking my tickets to keep ALL other dates except departure from Japan the SAME. However, he changed my departure date from China and I was forced to stay in China 1 extra night than expected. I only realised his mistake when I arrived in China so it was too late. I called him and told him about my problem and he said: "I have nothing to do with it, I showed you the re-booked ticket (given he showed me an invoice (not the rebooked ticket)).. it's your error for not double checking."

I am asking that they pay for my 1 nights accomodation in China (USD 100) because I should NOT have to foot the bill for their mistake. I plan on spreading the word as much as possible about NO 1 travel and their dodginess to as many foreigners as possible in Nagoya. So far as, I want to give out little tissues with warnings about the company. What do you suggest Ironopolis?

The closest and only hotel near to the Shanghai International Airport. Ramada I believe. It was probably closer to $90 USD

Japan 01,
Well, mate, you could start by re-reading the bit I wrote in an earlier post that I WOULD (I even used upper case before as well, just so folk wouldn't miss it, y'know Wink ) take my business elsewhere if I felt I or someone I knew well was shafted.
I'm sorry if you've been messed around at HIS in Nagoya, and I think I actually said that before too, that I had sympathy for anyone who had received poor service.

You seem to be suggesting that HIS have treated you like this just because you're a foreigner. It's possible, but I don't see any evidence of that. This kind of "sorry, your fault for not checking the documents and pointing out any error" situation is one that occurs all over the world, regardless of nationality and I'm sure happens to some Japanese customers too; sometimes when it's the customers mistake, sometimes not.

If it's you in the right in this dispute then I wish you luck.

Ironopolis,

I was NEVER suggesting that I was treated this way because I am foreign. It just so happens that the majority of MISHANDLING HIS complaints have been from foreigners. Of course, it must be said that I do have more foreign than Japanese friends so this may be the reason. That being said, I do know quite a few Japanese friends that insist on booking through HIS because of their "cheap" appeal. They seem to have no troubles. It must be 'gaijin luck'.
