| You might recover from salmonella, but you might not be so lucky with BIRD FLU. Just 'cause it's not in the news now doesn't mean it isn't still around. It's easily killed with detergent or heat, so a word to the wise. |

| What does bird flu have to do with rice in Japan? You can't catch it from Japanese eggs either. In fact, there are thousands more dangerous things out there than the much-hyped but yet-to-surface deadly bird flu epidemic- I can't understand for the life of me why people worry so much about it. |

Japanese poulty products are not somehow magically immune to salmonella: "The Japan Poultry Association (JPA) has admitted that salmonella bacteria was found in 26 percent of egg farms in Japan during a recent survey that covered less than 6 percent of the countrys egg farms.
Salmonella bacteria, which can cause potentially fatal food poisoning, were detected in more than 26 percent of egg-producing farms surveyed by the Japan Poultry Association (JPA). "

Bird Flu obviously has little to do with rice, but I was worried when people were talking about eating raw eggs, which I consider risky these days. I'm replying here about bird flu, somewhat off the topic I realize, because you asked why or maybe who was worried about it. Try WHO (The World Health Organization) in this link:

Your article states that people have have contracted bird flu got it through contact with infected poultry (i.e. the living birds) in SE Asia- the leap to being concerned about Japanese battery-farmed eggs is huge in my opinion.
Even in South East Asia, many thousands more people catch, and die of, malaria and dengue fever than bird flu (you will most likely find statistics on the WHO website about this), it's just not the latest news, so little attention is paid to it. |
