Hi all,

I'm a little unsure about the charges incurred when withdrawing cash from ATMs when I get to Argentina. Can anyone shed any light?

I have just looked back on my statement on withdrawals in Europe and Natwest have charged me around 4% commission. However Nationwide are claiming that they don't charge for withdrawals overseas.

Would appreciate your views on this. Arriving in BA in a month, very excited!!

cheers

Rich

Nationwide don't charge anything, as far as I'm aware, they're the only ones who don't. But it's the UK bank that charges you, not the Argentine ATM.

I'm not a regular ATM user here so perhaps someone can correct me if I'm wrong. The only local charges I would expect to result from using any cash machine in Argentina would be the couple of pesos they might charge for the use of the machine. This would vary from bank to bank but would be the same as is charged to everyone else and not a percentage of the transaction.

As Phil_b pointed out you should check your home bank and their policy on currency conversion.

Most UK banks DO charge a percentage, AND a minimum charge. Nationwide appear to charge you the same whether you're in Barking or Buenos Aires, you don't get charged by the Arg bank.

I would like to point out that I don't work for Nationwide or anything Wink and there may well be others that are just as good...
