I have lived in England for the previoud decade and I have an English teaching experience in Thailand
BUT I'm NOT a native speaker although I have a CLEAR English accent.
Is it possible for me to find a teaching position in Taiwan ?
Is it worth the flight ticket to go there and check ? |

If you have a passport and/ or degree from one of the accepted English speaking countries then you can get an ARC. If you don't have an ARC you must either make visa runs or get a student ARC.
Making visa runs is not a big deal if you plan them out. The money you save in taxes should more than pay the price of the runs. Get a multiple entry visa for business purposes. You can use that for as long as it is valid. Usually 1,3 or 5 years.
Landing visas also work but they are good for only 30 days and cost a little more money. You can take a midnight cruise to cut cost and time.
Yes you can get a teaching job in Taiwan. Sorry to have to tell you this however many of the local people and the goverment of the ROC are blatant racist. If you are not light enough it will be more difficult.
Feel free to contact me if you have any problems,

Good Luck

Yes you can find work even though you are not a native
speaker. I haven worked with many Scandinavians,
Italians etc. the only thing that matters to the
parents and the employer is your race. Accent, visa
and credentials are all secondary to that. Get a
multiple entry visa for business purposes and once in
Taiwan enroll in Chinese classes, that should give you
up to six months.
An ARc is an Alien Resident Certificate. It allows you
to stay in Taiwan for as long as your employers employs
you. It does not however allow you to work. That takes
is a work permit. Your boss is supposed to get one for
you. You will never see it and must trust your
employer to get a legit one or you are working
illegally.

After been in Thailand, it seems that the Employers here ONLY interest if you a native with a pasport from North America or Britian. All the other, doesn't really matter to them.
And I'm not talking about teaching English at the high levels like TOEFL and some specific universities courses. I'm talking about Elimentary and Intermediate levles.
Recently I was interviewed in a respectable teaching center in Bangkok.
The director was impressed from my fluent English, my previous teaching experience and my reference letters and told me honestly that he would like to, but he can't hired me because his students demand only nationals with North Americans or British passports.
And it seems the same scence in most of the schools here, thus force me to accept low payments.
I just wonder if it's the same old scene in Taiwan ?
Is it more easy for non-natives to find a teaching jobs outside Taipei, where there are less foreigners naturally willing to go there ? |

The nearest visa run location is Hong Kong. <snip> The quickest way to get there is by airplane, but there is also a boat which is cheaper. |
Are you sure? I'd love to hear more details about this boat. |

How much is an one-way or a return ticket from Taipei to Hong Kong ?
Is the 60 day tourist visa extendable ?
Do I have to enroll for a Chinese language course in order to extend the visa ? Is it a MUST ?
How much cost a Chinese language course in Taipei ?
Can I use the enrollment receipt at the immigration office in order to extend my tourist visa WITHOUT leaving the country ? |

According to Aristotle, there is a midnight cruise for NT2500. I've never heard of it, but he seems pretty sure. You should ask him. |
I think the "midnight cruise" that you're referring to doesn't go to Hong Kong. It just sails off the coast of Taiwan and returns the next day. Although you don't go anywhere it allows you to exit Taiwan and then re-enter for visa purposes. |
