|
|
Hello, I was reading on the Exito travel website that airlines in some South American countries require passengers to have a proof of a departure ticket upon entering the country. Does this apply in Peru? A question to all of you who are in Peru now- did you purchase a one way ticket to Peru or did you purchase a round-trip extended stay ticket? Thanks so much. -Sarah |

I was told on either this site or another that it was necessary to have a return ticket. That most likely the airline would not let you board without one, so I bought roundtrip. Looks like I could have saved some money as nobody ever checked or called for proof of return.
So once again naturegirl is correct. The prices from the US for one way were not considerably cheaper than RT so at least I didnt totally get burned. |

I've heard of people getting asked by officials in the US why they didn't have a return ticket. one girl I knew was refused boarding and questioned in the US because she didn't have a return ticket. (she's American by the way) She ended up missing her flight. I have bought round trip tickets and my passport was just stamped. I guess it's the luck of the draw. One way tickets are so expensive that its almost better to buy a round-trip. |

are you buying a one-way or round-trip? Let us know how that goes. When I head to Peru I'll probably buy a round-trip just for safety. You never know who'll you get in immigration. Good Luck and let us know what happened. |

i went with the roundtrip ticket. it was only a few hundred dollars more than a one way ticket and the travel agent (I booked through Exito) told me that if I were to buy a one way ticket from Peru to the US a year from now, it could cost a grand. that didn't seem worth it to me. |

Go for the 1 way Ryan. I really didnt see anyone getting checked at Lima airport. Just dont wear your Castro fatigues or anything that will draw attention to you.
If somebody does question you play dumb and tell them you plan to buy a bus ticket out of the country. Mention a bus company name like Ormeo or Cruz del Sur and Im sure you will be fine.
If you fly on an American owned airline and they give you trouble when you try to board, just raise hell and tell them that you were not advised at the the time of purchase that an exit ticket was going to needed. Express your dissatisfaction at their incompetence, and you might even get some free miles in the deal. |
