Who cares if its not original!!! How many statues and paintings of Leda and the Swan are there in existence?!
If the piece envokes something in whoever views it, then it has done its job. Whatever you may feel, whether it be anger, pain, disgust, bliss or regret, the piece has a function, be it an original subject matter or not. |

The quality and originality of the artwork is not the case here I reckon. I'm not a fan of his work but if people are to be punished in such a fashion for art I suggest
Evanescence
Paulo Coelho
Micheal Moore
and
The Writer of Family Guy
...all get thrown into a Turish jail for ten days. |

This is a political 'effort' where the message is of paramount importance ... and the symbols used in the representation of this message are crap and hackneyed ... rendering the message less potent than were it to be represented in a novel, more arresting fashion ...
Leda and the Swan is a Greek myth that has inspired many ... its theme is infinite and eternal ... and only great works can deal with such themes successfully ... |

| I think he got the message across eventhough the picture may have been crudely rendered. |

Now, what would that nice Mr. Erdogan make of this?
Ananova:
Police hunt farting dissident
Police in Poland have launched a nationwide hunt for a man who farted loudly when asked what he thought of the president.
Hubert Hoffman, 45, was charged with "contempt for the office of the head of state" for his actions after he was stopped by police in a routine check at a Warsaw railway station.
He complained that under President Lech Kaczynski and his twin brother Jaroslaw, the country was returning to a Communist style dictatorship.
When told to show more respect for the country's rulers, he farted loudly and was promptly arrested.
Hoffmann was arrested and released on bail but failed to turn up at a Warsaw court early this week to be tried, and the judge in the case rejected an appeal by defence lawyers to throw the charges out.
A court spokesman said: "Such a case of disrespect is taken very seriously."
Instead the court ordered the police to start a nationwide hunt for the man, and interpol have been alerted.

It's always been one of my life long ambitions to throw a lump of excrement at the Queen. I wonder what penalty I would be facing if this happened? |

Anyone's excrement?
that's unhealthy, that.
you should use your own - at least that way, you know where it's been. |

That kind of defeats the object though. Sure, throwing a box at her is likely to cause more bang for your buck but.....why go through all the hassle of picking up your poop, putting it into a box, storing it and then throwing the poo filled box?
EDIT: Unless, you don't fasten the lid on properly so she gets hit by both the box and the poop as the lid flies off upon impact. Genius!

*sigh*...
the depths we have sunk to....discussing the merits of hurling a poo-filled box at a little old lady....
*shakes his head ruefully, while pasting a label saying 'Mrs. Horseface, Buckingham Palace' on a suspiciously steaming package* |

I can't see how the Polish goverment could actually go through a legal case based on a fart. Shame on them for such silliness. It is destined to backfire on them, I expect. ( snigger, snigger)
I can just imagine the trial. No broccoli or beans on the jury's menu, I suppose or they might possibly be charged with contempt of court. A parade of doctors explaining intestinal contractions and the health benefits of "just letting it out". The defendent breaking down on the stand- "I'm a victim too!" and then suddenly looking around to see if anybody heard the last one. It has the makings of another Broadway musical.. "FART!"
Hmm.. I wonder if a case could actually be made for freedom of speech. Is flatuence technically a form of speech? |
