As long as you stay in bed and never leave it, you will be fine.
Any other advice from the people risking life and death just by living in the ME?

But Scot... even you knew what he meant. Cool

I hope that there isn't a rule that every poster must make their attempts at humor understandable to all who read this board.

Actually I have even purchased duct tape in the Gulf...

1. Make sense when you ask questions.

2. Ask relevant questions.

3. What?

Good evening Q of S. Why would I want to make sense?

I am always relevant, sort of.

I guess you have to get used to my warped sense of humour.

The point I was trying to make was I get a bit fed up with the "am I safe in the ME' threads.

Many people don't realise there is a search function on these boards.
Us oldies get bored answering the same old questions.
Regards

I am a relative newbie and I get sick of those questions too. My best advice is don't come if you dont feel safe about the ME from where you are now. Coming here doesn't make you feel any safer, and asking the same question about how safe is it will never quench this thirst to feel safe before jumping onboard.

Actually, coming here made me feel a lot safer. I used to harbor the same fears and prejudices as every other CONUS-bound American. Coming here taught me how silly they were.

And I have now replaced them with new fears and biases.

I think the reference to US domestic news coverage will be lost. I haven't seen any US domestic news since 1995.

I was of the impression that one of the satellite services has some domestic US channels and thus its ghastly inferior news product. Though why anyone would want to watch it is beyond me. I think it was Orbit... which was too expensive for me.

I get my news from Al-Jazeera, the BBC, and the CS Monitor.

Yes, Orbit does include some US "news' sources in its package. Like you, I am puzzled as to why anyone would actually choose to watch such dull and irrelevant 'news' - unless of course they are trying to get some insight into the 'worldview' - or lack of same - of NBC viewers.

BTW, speaking of news coverage, one of my pet hates has always been how news reports - and the better channels such as the BBC are also guilty in this regard - refer to Israel and Palestine as "the Middle East" or, even more vaguely, "the region". This gives the false impression that the entire 'region' is in a constant state of conflict and ethno-religious strife, when in reality most of the "Middle East" (whatever that term can be understood to mean) is considerably safer than the US or Europe.

A few weeks ago on BBC's middle East Business report. There was an item about Sudan!
