For Turkcell "Pay as you go" customers, did you know about the secret staff of credits you may have? You earn them each tiem you reload I believe. I only found out about this t'other day and found that I had 300 unused credits, I told a friend who had 500, and another had 700. Dial
*131# to see if you have any.
......carry on. |

(maybe because I am Scottish and I think FREE, QUICK. Add them on.) |

HOLY SH*T I had no idea!!! Thanks Baba. Apparently I have 625 credits I had no idea about.
And here I thought this Konbara crap was just something to spawn more annoying commercials and messages from Turkcell...
Thanks again!

When I moved to Kumbaraci Yokusu in Tunel, I learned that a kumbara is an old style non-domuz eti piggy bank (and the kumbaraci is their maker, natch). Ergo, those annoying konbara ads were there to mess with my head when I couldn't find the damn word in the dictionary. Now i know. And now I have a domuz-etisiz bankasi full of 600 bonus kontor! woohoo! |

And did you know el kumbarasi means hand grenade. I wonder what the etymology is behind that. |

Do you think the English word 'grenade' comes from the fruit grenadine? |
from etymonline
Quote: |
small explosive shell," 1591, from M.Fr. grenade "pomegranate," from O.Fr. pomegrenate (infl. by Sp. granada), so called because the many-seeded fruit suggested the powder-filled, fragmenting bomb, or from similarities of shape. Grenadiers (1676) originally were soldiers "who were dexterous in flinging hand-granados" [Evelyn], from Fr. grenadier; later "the tallest and finest men in the regiment." |
What's it got to do with piggy banks though? |

Isn't grenadine syrup made with pomegranate?
Maybe the Turkish hand granade one comes from the same idea as the pomegranate seeds, like a small box that holds many smaller things that explode all over the place...
Or perhaps it's the shape too? If Turkish piggy banks aren't shaped like pigs, what do they look like? Maybe hand grenades? |

I made use of the free post midnight message service when issuing invites to my recent birthday party. Saved me loads but I got some flack from friends who were woken in the early hours of the morning! |
