I am having visa problems in Chongqing. my mostly clueless company said they would arrange for my visa, and they are financially, but i have to do a lot of legwork myself, fine.
went today with a chinese assistant to the office and was told we were missing some forms. 2 forms can easily be accessed from the company headquarters but one form calls for a criminal background check - is this standard in china? is it unique to chongqing?
how would I go about getting such a thing? I am an American and the consulate in chengdu said they could not help me, I will have to contact the police department, or something similar in the USA. There seem to be many internet services for background checks - will that be enough? will it need to be translated into chinese? I'm not quite sure what they want, but I'd like to get my work visa ASAP
Thanks. |

IF a criminal background report is required - and I for one don't think that's an unreasonable requirement! - then no, you cannot enlist some Internet-based company to do your legwork.
You need an authentic police report from your previous place of residence. I guess only you can ask for that - in person, or maybe through one of your relatives. |

I have heard of some folks having to produce one..but have no clue as to why or how..but if you do get a local police record from your home of record..according to your passport..make sure it is translated... |
