Over qualified and under qualified at the same time.

I am going crazy, the only jobs I can get offered are with the less desirable institutions in the private sector.

For the government I am under qualified until the end of December. But, for the private sector, they say I am over qualified.

Can anyone suggest a reputable educational service provider to apply to?

Chris

Sorry about the sloppy posting style. Just did a quick cut and paste. Didn't include the institutions.

I would suggest you try CARITAS. I found them to be the most honest company I worked for. They are advertising now in the SCMP job section. They are a catholic based charitable agency..but religion does not feature in any of the things I was asked to do. Plus..they were very nice people to deal with. Very helpful and education minded.

Where are you dong your diploma?

Have you tried English Excel? I know of a couple of people who worked for them w/o any problems.

You could also try the vocational training council.

Good luck.

Which Diplomas?

The Graduate Diploma in Adult Education and Training (complete) was HKU SPACE

The Diploma TEFL is with Chiense University SCS. To be completed by Demember this year.

The Trinity Liticiante DIP. TESOL is with well... Trinity. I was studyign via EF, but I couldn't get all of the course books in time. A lot of web problems meant missing deadlines. Hurricane Katrina took out thier server, I-cable's modem gave out, one of the library books I have a couple of pages being copied was confiscated by the Customs and Excise Department. Hence, I have the course deffered until after the CU HK DIP.TEFL. Then I can just take teh Trinity exams and practicums at some future date.

The LCCI EB Diploma in Teaching Busienss English is well, guess who?
Pretty nice, I am just sitting the exams. One on the 3rd of October, then just 1 more core and 1 elective. Dtaes to be decided later.

BTW I have just found an EMB recognised degree that I should be able to complete within 12 - 18 months! Tommorrow I go to sort out how much credit transfeer I can have. Which will determine the duration. Nottigham have recoginised it as a PGDE with 33% credit towards thier MEd. The OUHK said 'pfffft' you ca't take our MEd programs and only offered 5 credits towards thier programs. I am hoping for at least 10 credits off thier BLS.

BTW Excel, they too suggested I was overqualified / expereinced! Most agencies like that seem to doubt I would stay long. That is riddiculous. I just want a stable income to pay for my current and future studies.

I worked for english excel and I would just like to warn anyone who is contemplating working for them, unless teaching 40 hours per week for way less pay than is normal is what you fancy doing. However, you are probably eligible for the NET scheme which means you would be sorted. Hi Andy by the way.....Good luck!

Well, I have reached a decision.

I do have a part time lecturing post and some charitable teaching work.

As for the private sector, my god, no!

It seems every educational service provider out there is a charlatans. They all want to make money from education whilst having no standards.

Hence, my decision. I shall attempt to establish a base of private students teaching, with a possible view to starting my own company.

I should really keep a blog. That way I could pass on any useful tips. If I get around to starting a blog I shall post the site details here.
