We are all guilty of rising to the bait when some of our number here (we know who they are and so do they) like to brag and belittle. Personally I feel they are more suited to being in the school yard as students.."my dads bigger than your dad", rather than as teachers. I suggest we now just ignore them when they spout about how much money they earn etc.. Not only are they boring, but they post the most inaccurate rubbish I have seen here about any topic they turn their hands to. I don't know how to use the vote thing here, but to cast your vote, and I hope there are a lot of them for this, just reply to this message with.."Dudes we are not worthy, but suggest you go and get your own lives and leave us to our own".

In hope of a good response, Once Again.

My advice:

Don't feed the trolls!

Yep, don't reply.

I do wonder, though...are the moderators and Dave on vacation? I mean, Joe C. had a post deleted for using the word "goofball," but this (not very good) troll is allowed to continue spewing at will?

While I've often been guilty of troll feeding, I'll join the 12 step recovery program. This is a good idea. I hope it works.

I'm sure we all have different ideas of what a flamer is. Can you define it? Can you give a list of who to avoid? Is there such a thing as a reformed flamer? Is there a help group called FA?(flamers anon)
Biff, aka doors, has been rather sensible recently- well he hasn't been banned!

I tend to ignore them but my justifiable wrath has been raised. I am irked to discover that I am being spewed at.....

Each to their own... We all have an opinion. Some of us are just a little more forceful in demonstrating, or is that remonstrating, our opinion. We do not have to answer, to do so is to justify the troll's existence to thank them for having the decency to insult us and our intelligence.

I think most of us have been flamers at some point. My definition is: someone who posts while angry. I've been posting for around 10 years on the Net; I used to upset people and get upset loads of times. I'd bash out some vitriol, feeling completely justified in my actions / view. I guess, I'm much reformed; I've learned to not reply when I'm angry, and I temper my language with lots of anti-arrogance language e.g. IMHO, IIRC etc. without it some posters got very irrate with me. Life is a lesson.

That' a good, practical, definition for a "flamer': someone who posts while angry. I would add, . . . & who seems to "attack" another poster.

As far as the comment of using temperate language. It's not always easy to do on the Net. It's seems quite easy to "offend" someone, without exerting much effort, sometimes. Confused

Thus, an attempt at using temperate language along with some of these handy emoticons does help to keep a message appear less harsh. Proofreading, before posting, can help too.

Flamer: someone who has no intent--or is unable--to engage in a conversation, but enjoys stating reckless or harshly worded or stupid opinions, mainly just to see who might "bite." These folks (seemingly) like to see "what kind of reaction" they can cause, to see if it is possible to "muddy the waters," (stir things up) so to speak.
[One further thought, added about 5 minutes later] And . . . who does so consistently, i.e. it is an identifiable "pattern" of behavior.
