Hello all,

I would love some advice from those who have been playing this game longer than I.

I've doing all the research I can via the 'net about living and working conditions in Spain but could still do with some more...
I'm an Aussie with a British (EU) passport who wants to find work in Spain this coming January. I'll have completed an Arts degree in English Literature by the end of this year but will not have the piece of paper proving that I've done it till mid '07.
All I'll have is my CELTA and a couple of years of ESL teaching experience.
Also other than busily trying via the BBC Languages site I have no Spanish speaking ability. (But that is also part of the reason in going to Spain)
I'm hoping to stay out of Madrid and Barcelona. I aiming for regional Spain, somewhere in the southern half of the country.

Am I going to be hitting a brick wall with finding a job and apartment at the beginning of next year, in that region of Spain or with my qualification level ?
Any advice is welcome.

thanks all
David

It might be worth coming to Madrid to learn Castellano Spanish for a while before you shoot off into the provinces: that way you'll also have a chance to check out different destinations before you commit to them and ask around about other peoples experiences there.

from a work point of view you'd be better off in Madrid than Barcalona. There isn't as much demand for Enlgish there and due to the fact everyone wants to live there its put a lot of downward pressure on wages.

Madrid on the other hand has much more work than teachers.

My recomendations would be to come to start out in Madrid get settled and them move on from there. If you have a few months living expenses in the bank it will make the transition much easier. Madrid and Spain are great places to live but as with anywhere its not fun if you run out of money or can't find enough work to live off of.
