Hello everyone
I haven't had a heck of a lot of time to browse Dave's cafe like i used to but lately the forums seem to be more... I don't know, interesting. 3-5 months ago i used to come here nearly everyday to check the postings. Usually i'd leave with the "blah" feeling after having read a few arguements about this or that. Lately though, i've found myself actually reading posts and/or threads that were actually interesting i.e. the When to go thread. I wonder what's changed....

Is it me or was there a thread named Is it me or... earlier this summer?
Anyway, someone's got to give you this answer, so I might as well get it out of the way so the thread can progress: It's you.
Actually, this thread might not progress. Recently I've had a nasty knack for killing off threads unintentionally. Like the Questions, questions, questions thread. |

Sorry Steiner, i hadn't realized that there was a rule about duplicating subject headings.
Oh look, there's no more food in my pocket.

No rule, I just thought it was a coincidence. Interesting, like deja vu. I like it.
Proceed. |

The discussions here (overall) seem to be of a higher quality than some other forums I've visited. My tentative conclusion is that it has to do with the fact that most of the folks here have a decent level of education.
cheryl,
one possibility (only a guess, of course) is that maybe you yourself have also changed--in terms of teaching experience? (maybe some other way?). Thus, perhaps, ideas concepts opinions that didn't click before, do now "click." I know something similar to this has happened with me at times in the past.
However, being still new to this forum, you would be a better position than me to judge whether or not the quality of posts/threads have changed . . .
One thing I like about the forum (maybe not the most important, but still noticeable) is the abundance of really cool, nice looking original avatars! |

I know what you mean Cheryl. Maybe some of the more argumentative types have left. There seem to be a few MIA. Maybe fall is a better time for coming up with topics-hangover from that back to school time. Hard to say but let's hope it continues. Wait I know-Mars has gone out of retrograde.
Glad you liked my thread! |

Cheryl, I thought the same thing. I reckon during the summer we(may I include myself in this esteemed company?) were on holiday and had better things to do and new adventures to find. However we are now all back at the start the new academic year with shackles holding us to the nearest register/contract/modem or anything else that restricts the free spirit(money?) |

Just a two center....
Some of the argumentative types do bring a good thing to the table.
Maybe it is me. but I think it is better not to be on this discussion board everyday..... |

Question: by argumentative types, do you mean flamers? If so, i have to disagree with you. There are civilized ways of putting forth an opposing view, and then... there are the flamers.
As for being on here everyday, I don't see the harm in it unless the time you spend in Dave's Cafe is excessive i.e. hours upon hours of reading and replying to posts.
All in all, I'm happy to know that others are thinking this forum is getting better. I didn't only mean that the threads were more interesting, but also that I didn't see as much "flaming" going on. |
