I am trying to leave a teaching position in Yunnan for various reasons. I entered on a Z visa, but the school has not gotten me a residence permit yet. Will I be hassled if I try to leave China, flying from Kunming to Hong Kong? I know that I will not be able to reenter, but that's okay. I just want to know if I will be able to exit. Thank you |

When did you enter China? If you've been here for more than 30 days and you don't have a RPF, or you don't have one being processed now, then you are living illegally in China. Therefore, you WILL get into trouble with the PSB at the airport.
I am curious as to why your school hasn't done anything to get you a RPF, even though you did come in with a Z visa. |

I have been in China less than thirty days. They're taking their time, but I don't think they're neglecting me. Am I okay leaving then? |

I have to say I feel sorry for the school if they actually have got you a Z visa.. It cost them time, money and energy.. This will reflect badly on the next foreigner who wants to work for them..
I presume you found another job in HK that pays better eh..

Some time ago, a lady was planning to come to the school that employed me. She had signed the contract, had her documents processed, and then decided to contact me. Now this was A MARRIED WOMAN. She described herself, "long brown hair, blue eyes" and said she was looking forward to travelling around China with me.
She asked about the school. Now I knew that these sociopaths at the school did not want their FTs travelling. They paid me a month's salary to not travel during the spring break. They refused to let me go on a trip with other teachers to Hainan.
I told this lady, as tactfully as I could, that she would be entering a gulag of sorts if she came to the school.
She then cancelled her job acceptance and told the FAO it was because I didn't like to associate with other foreigners. Of course he was very upset. He said the PSB was also upset, so upset that they were going to flag her name so she would not be able to ever get a visa to enter China.
I don't know what became of her. I told the FAO she was insane and that he should be glad that she didn't come. I also wrote her another letter and tried to present her the bright side of being at that school.
Never heard from her again. |

And that only because you couldn't have a go at this blue-eyed beauty? You should thank the atheist CCP for having preserved your Chirstian moral ehtics, man! Obviously your spirit is weaker than your flesh although you keep preaching to us the contrary! |

It sure does get tiresome to read post after post looking for advice as to how to properly pull a runner.
If you have a legitimate reason for leaving your school, then out with it. Otherwise, don't be surprised if the responses you get here aren't exactly what you had in mind. |

Hey, no_exit --
This ClintHurdle wasn't the person working for you, was he? His situation sounds awfully familiar! |

Nope. My guy wasn't running from Yunnan, that's where I am, not where he was. Neither were we slow in getting him a residence permit, he was slow in getting his own hide back to the school so that we could even *begin* to process the residence permit.
Fraid this guy is just another runner, probably not nearly as despicable as mine however. |

If you really, really want to stay at this school, then you need to be emailing and calling and knocking on the office door every day "reminding" them about the impending expiration of your Z visa. I mean, make them sick of hearing from you. "Remind" them 2 or 3 times a day. Sure, you shouldn't HAVE to do this, but there it is. |

Is China really that bad? Why would you want to leave after just one month?

The OP is not leaving China, he is leaving the school. Why? Greener pastures, narrow-mindedness and thus unwilling to adjust and adapt, lack of research and mental preparation before leaving for China. |
