Hi everyone !
This is an excellent site.
I need some advice - I'd like to work in Saudi.
I've a Law degree, 6 A-levels, qualified as a lawyer with relevant Law Society exams and am supposed to by writing up my PhD (emphasis on supposed).
I've recently passed the CELTA course. I've extensive experience of teaching part-time and undertaking research at a University Law School rated 5* for both teaching and research and is part of the UKs so called "Ivy League".
What are my chances of getting work in Saudi, where should I apply, and what sort of package should I expect given my qualifications and experience? Pay at a Uni in the UK is, frankly, poor, esp. when it's p-t and you've student debts to pay off
Any advice and leads on these matters would be excellent.
Many Thanks,
Griff |

Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I'm bored of law, it's dry and turns you into a sociopath
Any advice you could give me regarding where to apply and what to expect would be great.
Many thanks for *any* help. |

Also, their teachers are generally comparatively youthful. It is not another diabolical bastion of the bottox set,the drunken macho geriatric mafia which unfortunately blights other institutions in the KSA.i |

I had to admit that the term gave me a good laugh too... isn't that a language school?
Ah yes... language schools... that is certainly the peak of the profession, isn't it? ... where the creme de la creme clamor to teach...

Don't denigrate language schools; after all in places like Korea they are called Universities and I know people who were assistant professors at such establishments before coming to KSA as linguists and academics.
Besides, Bebsi runs a language school...I know, I know...VS is muttering 'QED' to herself as she reads this |

The European Center in Jubail sparkles with the glitter of youthful repartee.
V S's comments are indicative of unenlightened and discourteous prejudice against a worthy body of men, another argument in fact for restricting this forum to actual teachers as opposed to the elderly and retired.
Indeed, the European Centre is ideal for TEFL neophytes because it provides very interesting 3 month assignments. |

*Pops up Meerkat stylee*
"Very interesting" as in stimulating or very interesting as in working in a dangerous out of the way place populated by deranged rednecks? |

Rennennkampf worked at the European Center for some time until there was a mutually agreed parting of the ways.
When he recommends it he is being sarcastic. |

Not at all.I reccommend it unreservedly. It is a splendid introduction to Saudi
teaching practice and to post modern capitalism. |
