Wondering if anyone here is currently working in Zacatecas. I'm working in Guadalajara and not considering an immediate move but I would like to know what the teaching situation is like there. For future reference.
Best to all. |

When I took the ITTO course 18 months ago, Zacatecas was my first choice of location. I was told teaching jobs are rare there and that ITTO had no leads. I ended up somewhere else where I was very happy, but did have the chance to visit once. It is a beautiful city and has a nice flavour. I'd like to visit again, but am not sure if I would be happy living there. I think I prefer some of the greener places in the south. |

I spent an afternoon in Zacatecas and set about looking for language schools. I found one, all boarded up and nothing else. I think the place is just too small to support much.
Aguascalientes is nearby though... |

That's precisely what I'm trying to figure out. What, in the way of an English school, can Zacatecas, or another small-to-medium size town support.
According to las paginas amarillas, Ingles Individual has a location there as does the Washington Institute.
I was hoping to hear from people working there. If there aren't any, I suppose that could be a good sign or a bad one |

I think it would be a good sign if you are looking to set up there J. I live in a town that I assume is smaller than Zacatecas. We have an Ingls Individual, but there is definately a need for a good quality, not to expensive for what you get, language school. I'm contantly asked to give lessons, but don't have time, or a finacial need to do more work. I can't recommend people go to Ingls Individual, so try to put them in touch with someone giving private classes. I think most towns over 50,000 have a market, and just need someone willing to take the risk. |

Speaking of Zacatecas, I have a job staying with a family there to teach their 4 children (I already am teaching them in the US) in exchange for a place to stay and food. Nothing definite about how long. The Summer weather sounds great. I'm just wondering whether its interesting enough to stay for a while.
Thanks for any info.

I'd second the mention in your other post about good museums in Zacatecas. I went to one that has everything, from archaeological stuff to Goya and Japanese masks.
If you like coffee, go to the Acropolis (I think its called) which is near the cathedral. If its not called the Acropolis, its some other Greek name. Second best coffee in all of Mexico! (well, it was there in 2002)
and those gorditas! What's that gordita restaurant called? Anybody?? |
