Hi, I'm scheduled to go to Osaka on 7th November to work for Nova, but an unexpected incident has occured here at home and as a result I can't go over to Japan anymore (and no it's not an excuse for accepting an offer from another company!!)...
Has this ever happened to anyone, i.e., had to cancel a few weeks before departure... I know that they'll think I'm just messing them around, but anyway, what's the worse that Nova can do to me apart from give me an earbashing for "wasting their time?" |

Nothing. You probably won't be hired again if you reapply. Have a nice life. |

Yeah I wouldn't really worry about it. It's not like you joined the army. |

Even if you did join the military, you can still get out of it prior to boot camp - at least in the USA (don't know about other countries). |

As others said, don't worry about it at all. It actually happens quite a lot, not just to Nova, but lots of other schools hiring the numbers they do that people no show, for reasons good or bad, and they allow for this possibly happening when they're assessing their numbers.
In fact, I think it's possible that if you let them know sharpish, sound sufficiently apologetic and have a reasonable excuse for withdrawing, you may not even have closed the door on them. I expect the very worst you'll get is that they don't bother replying to you, and there would be plenty of other ways into Japan should you ever want to try again if they didn't. |

In my area, we had a month where 7 teachers no-showed with Nova. It happens. If you talked to them and still wanted to come, you might be able to just put off your departure for a few months. There was a couple in my area that had done that because Nova wanted them to be in Japan much earlier than they had expected and they were planning their wedding. They expect a certain number of people to do it, I wouldn't worry about it too much. |

I'd give them a call if you are really still interested...If they are ok with it, just get them to disregard your letter..despite how unreasonable Nova may be in some areas, they are pretty flexible when it comes to getting people to come and work for them. |

If you're still interested, call/e-mail them and let them know that you'd like to postpone it (and tell them a new departure month) and that you made a mistake when writing the letter. They won't mind. |
