I wanted to interject here if I may, since I feel responsible for hijacking the thread by posting (what I thought at the time to be) a funny comment about the context of a sentence:
Lets leave the "comparative religions" lectures for another forum. There are so many fantastic people who follow the spiritual path/teaching(s) of their choice! We all have our opinions and bias and preference...but we tolerate each other. Can we leave it at that for now? We risk getting some very good and kind people upset at each other...
This thread about homophobia in Taiwan answered the question...
xie xie!

Oh for marxsakes...
Serousfun: Really no need to apologize. It is difficult not to bring up Christianity when talking about homophobia. What the Christian posted was tantamount to saying that homosexualiy is of the same ilk of sins as murder, sex with underage plant life, and claiming that Bush knew about 911. Foreignertobe brings up good hermeneutic points that a lot of stuff in the Old Test. was written beacuse at the time it was simply called for. Don't touch pig skin? Yeah... they were dying of trichonosis. Don't let men lie with men (or women with women, even tho they dont really 'spill seed')? Yeah... there was a population crunch.
I know I know... all the Bible scholars here on Dave's will be quick to point out that in the New Testament--the changing of rules, so to speak--there is still mention that gay stuff is bad. I would say to them, however, that nowhere in the Bible does Christ say gay folks should be denied marriage rights and should be relegated to jobs in restaurants and the theater. In fact, He says nothing about it at all. The only one to do so was Paul in his letter to the Romans. But... I swear... if you lean really close to the Bible while reading Paul's vitriol and apparent self loathing... you can totally smell a little CK One coming up off the man's tunic.
That said, let me also say that there is a lot of good in Christianity and that I understand why the Christian defended his cult. For the most part, it keeps its followers from killing people and taking drugs. And there are good Christians too. My grandma for one... She makes an amazing pie, pinches your cheeks, loves Jesus, and hopes for the best for everyone. Still tho, one has to also factor in to this naivete (sorry gramma) that no other religion has started more wars or oppressed more people than the Christians. Except for maybe the current one the Christians are battling...
Who wants to drink a glass of wine and eat some pie while the extremists have it out??
(see Christian guy... gay folks can be nice too. We have our place darn it. Just keep your plant life and pig skin away from us...)
And to address f.t.b.'s question regarding why the Christians send missionaries to the 2nd and 3rd world and not to Mensa meetings: Simple. The Christians know that Mensa members are too busy solving logic problems to take on the importance of seeing the true path of God's love through the Jello squares served at church outings and shockingly at PTA meetings as well. Or, they realize that Christians are, as my Jewish friend calls them, "religious lightweights" where thought and question are not welcome and the only requirement to join is simple belief. That and a gun of course. |

| Another note to seriousfun: I am sorry. you wanted to kill this thread, but i prattled on. And i think you are great for trying to bring peace to the board. However, I get riled sometimes... And bored. So thanks for the inadvertant new direction... even if you were just pointing out a humorous possible misinterpretation of a previous post. Don't worry. You will stil go to heaven... |

canadian03, you wrote these things in 2 of your posts:
"Being young and female..."
"I'm not going to lie; I love gay boys,..."
Am I missing some joke here or something?
Ah, I assume you like gay girls too. |

Oh yah, definitely love gay girls too
My comment about loving gay boys was in response to henryhu's statement "if you can tolerate gay boys being gay boys". This is a huge stereotype, so I apologize if it offends anyone, but basically gay boys are into being fabulous and picking up when it comes to going out to the gay bar and sometimes "tolerating" them can be taxing. But alas, I love them nonetheless. Afterall, their fashion advice and makeup application skills are a necessity for lesbians.... hahaha |
