I am doing a little 'research' Wink and part of that inludes the claim that George Bush owns land down there. I am aware that the Reverend Moon has land but can anyone give me information on the Bush family. Please PM me if you would prefer.

It is intriguing if he does, not sure how you could verify it. Paraguay is always a country I would like to visit.

What an absurd idea. I very much doubt that GW could find Paraguay on a map.

Paraguay has very limited sovereignity, the US Ambassador has more power than the president.

Recently the US sent troops down there in order to "fight terrorism" which should be viewed as intervening in the advent of a civil war in Bolivia, which the US trying to provoke by funding both opposition groups and seperation groups, which are of whiter skin and richer, in the eastern Oil rich proviences of Bolivia.

If your read Spanish, do a good search at www.prensalatina.com and www.aporrea.org . If not, do a google search for "George Bush Land Purchase Paraguay," and you'll find a lot.
There are quite a few articles about the recent Bush purchase. Also about Bush's daughter's involvement in it. It's quite near a US military base under development, where US military personel have been granted "Immunity from international prosecution, including war crimes and crimes against humanity, local prosecution, and extradition." The base and the immunity treaty are provable; a matter of public record in Paraguay. I didn't really see anything that looked like hard evidence of the land purchase; still, a lot of people are reacting to it. Seems likely to me.
They are both (the base and the alleged Bush family land) in the area of the Guarani aquifer in northern Paraguay. As to why the US might be interested in this aquifer, was that a serious question? Depending on which geological survey you go with, it's either the second or the third largest source of fresh water in the world. As such, its economic value is incalculable. Not to mention the leverage it would provide to whoever controls it- it's the primary source of water for a lot of the people who would be affected by proposed MERCOSUR treaties and agreements. A government that was interested in undermining MERCOSUR and other Latin American movements towards solidarity and independence could do well by threatening to turn off the water to those people.

Best,

Justin

But haven't you heard? He uses the Google on the Internets to look up maps. He doesn't use email though, so no point in asking him about Paraguay.

Personally it sounds more like Paraguayan rumour-mongering more than anything else.

It is true that PY's government is very close to Bush (possibly in an attempt to get the rest of MERCOSUR to pay attention to them) and the aquifer is big news all over South America - and it has lead to a lot of land buying in Paraguay. Probably because it's cheap and it's an anarchic enough country that if you've got enough ca$h you can do what you like.
