Those of you who are NOT new in China this year, but DID change to a different school:

--did you have to re-take the medical for your visa renewal this year?

--if not, did you have to produce the official report from your first medical?

Thanks .... SuppaTime

I ended up having to retake the medical, but the main reason for this was my Z visa expired while waiting for a new contract to be done up so I had to convert to F and then back to Z.
With that being said, I was informed that any time you are switching schools/going to a new school in Hubei province at least, you have to retake the medical. It is not necesary if you are staying at the same school according to the boys at the foriegn experts office anyway.

No, I did not have to re-take the medical for my visa renewal this year and neither did I have to produce the official report from my last medical (done in Canada). For the record, I switched from the capital of Inner Mongolia to the capital of Jilin.

Relax, you're fine.

Thanks both. It is contradictory info, which is not your faults, because you are reporting accurately what happened to you. It is all the more strange, because someone pm'd me, contrary to what adamsmith was told, that they changed schools several times in Hubei (Wuhan) and did Not have to retake it.

I am now into my third year working in Wuhan, Hubei. I had the medical examination in my first year here - but, it hasn't been required for the subsequent two years. I have worked at two different universities in Wuhan in the three years.

The FAO did have to show my original medical examination report each time when completing the RPF procedures for my current job.

I assumed that the medical examination might not have been necessary these past two years because my Contracts were for only 10 months each time.

As I had mentioned before in my previous post I was told by the foreign experts bureau and the medical people that you are supposed to get a new medical done when changing jobs in Wuhan (hubei). But I should clarify that I was given this information through my FAO who had made the phone calls and talked to these people. As I do not speak chinese, although I was in the room when she made the phone calls, I did not understand what she was saying.
Previously I had posted that you would not need a new medical based on information from the boys in blue from beijing.
All this goes to show is that the rules change on a regular basis depending on who you are talking to and the that the local governments have discovered that there is a cash cow out there to be used to seperate FTs and their hard earned Kuai. Probably involving some kickbacks to the FAOs as well. We all know how the real china system works - hehe

Well, actually it would seem to raise the question of whether these regulations pertaining to foreign teachers are set at the federal, provincial, or city level. Anyone know?

Also, is there any place where one can access the truly official statement of such rules? I don't know how transparent such rules are in China.

I would certainly like to know what the deal really is. I'm making a life here, and I really don't like the idea of always being dependant on passing the medical exam to be able to stay. One can't know what state of health the future will bring. M
