Can You Get A WHV For Japan with An Open Return Ticket ?
Or does it absolutely have to be a return ticket?

I am talking with my Japanese friend whose sister works in a travel agency in Japan so I might be able to get an open ticket really cheap.

My japanese friend came here to canada with an open air ticket basically you can come back anytime within a year and a set return date is not necessary.

How you get this ? I'm not sure ?

Luckily my Japanese friend's Sister works at a Travel Agency so he's gonna check on it. If i find anything out ill tell ya Wink

Yup, no problem at all. Done it myself several times. Remember that when you book the ticket it _will_ have a date on it, so make it a date that fits into the WHV guidelines. Consulates and Immigration will neither care or know that the date can be moved by you without penalty from the airline (all an 'open' ticket is). Their only concern is that you have a return ticket and don't actually overstay your SOR period.

Thankyou for that, i have another question for you:

Do they send over authorities if you over stay ?
Or can I just renew my visa with my school?
Do they actually track your open return ticket ?

Your chances are slim of staying past a year on a WHV. (There is more using the search function.

3.Do they actually track your open return ticket ?

They won't let you board the plane without a return ticket. G Cthulhu explained it well to you.

You know you get a further 6 months if you apply to Immigration before the first 6 months expires, right?

I originally came to Japan on WHV with a 1 year open ticket- you specify a date for the return but can change it- how many times without penalty is up to the airline. As a 1-year open is a return ticket, it's no problem. It's the one-way tickets that can cause trouble.

Again, try using the search function and ask more detailed questions. The WHV is not confusing, as there are MANY threads about it. It's for 6 months plus 6 months. As a Canadian, you get one year.

As far as going to Korea, I would double check. I thought you need a degree. I don't know if there is a WHV relationship with Korea and Canada.

Switch to Korea or Taiwan? Sounds to me like you have a Bachelors degree. What would you need a WH visa for when you can just get an actual working visa with your B.A.?

Yes, a significant difference. A 2 year college degree doesn't qualify you for a regular instructor/specialist in humanities visa.

Well for Japan, it won't help you. But if you were to go to Taiwan, all you'd need now is a TESOL certificate and you'd be set to go if you were to make Taiwan your destination. But considering the fact your primary concern is Japan, if you wanted to go to Japan on the WH visa, wouldn't you be able to finish your University by correspondence? Cause you may be able to finish your University while you're on your WH visa and as soon as you get your degree, just upgrade your WH visa to an actual Work visa. (You need a sponsor of course.)
Jared

p.s. Correct me if I'm wrong, but even a 3 year B.A. should work. Am I right?

A 3-year BA as offered by universities in New Zealand, Australia and the UK is fine. As long as the degree has "Bachelor of ------" written on it in big letters it seems like Immigration is happy.
