I am considering enrollment in a TESL program in preparation for a possible trip to Japan, and was wondering what type of course would best prepare me for working as either an ALT or tutor for small groups of say, 1-5 children. I had the opportunity to work in a middle school as both a tutor and a paraprofessional while completing my Bachelors degree, and I think I would enjoy working with students in that age group (8-14 years would be ideal.) The Young Learners, and Tutoring ESL programs at Vancouver Community College look interesting...has anyone here had experience with either of them? Are there any other recommendations? Thanks in advance!

The VCC program TESL program is great, and the Young Learners and Tutoring program were designed with people like you in mind. I'd challenge you to find anything better.

VCC = excellent reputation, but I can't comment about that particular course.
