|

Hey everybody,
does anybody know anything about Tampico in the state of Mataulipas? Is it a big city, a small city, is it interesting architecturally, historically? I know it has a beach, but does it have anything going for it culturally (music, dance, arts, performance, university life etc.)? I'm particularly interested in performance/dance... There's not much info on Tampico out there so I'd appreciate any feedback!
thanks! |

I'm moving to Tampico in a few weeks - do you know of any Spanish Schools that are reputable?
Also, it's lame, but I'll be hanging out with my Mexican friend's Spanish speaking friends and I predict a possible need of some English speaking company at some point! I'm the only one from my company working there so friends from my workplace are a no-go for a few months until the other positions are filled! I prefer to hang out with locals, but through experience, I find that it's comforting to have some friends who've been/are going through the same culture shocks!! Is this a possibility?! |

TEFL.. its not lame to predict the need for something familiar while living in an unfamiliar environment. I suspect there are very very few people who can truly "go native" after becoming an adult or adolescent.
Thats part of the reason why Dave's exists... |

Indeed, it's true... Thanks - I've met heaps of people on my travels who see it as a failure not to completely immerse yourself in a new unknown culture - much easier to understand with the help of fellow adventurers assistance in translating the practicalities!!! |

Tamaulipas is a fascinating state. You've got coast, the semi-jungle Huasteca region, and the border with its own peculiarities and attractions.
It is, however, very hot, and Tampico is not known for having one of Mexico's finest beaches (then again, Mexicans tend to compare all beaches to Cancun and that's just not fair).
It does seem that in recent years I've seen more ads for teaching positions in Tampico, which could indicate the market there is on the upswing. |
