hak,
Like most jobs, the good ones don't come right away. You have to work your way up the ladder. Keep moving on to a better job. I have been teaching now about 11 years in 3 countries and have had about 8 jobs teaching in that time. Each job was better than the previous one and the experiences (good or bad) helped me get the next job.
Don't look and compare yourself to teachers and their salaries who have been doing this awhile. Entry level jobs don't usually pay much, but we have all started there. |

We all do. That's why we have them. |

I counted 75 work days for me this calendar year. 5 months off and a 3 day work week. |

In the week starting December 18th this year, my school will be moving to another district of this city. As "compensation" for this, my American colleague will work a 4-day week instead of a 5-day week from the beginning of next term (December 26th). Hence, we will both be having 3-day weekends for the rest of the academic year (22/33 working weeks remaining).
Unfortunately, the school's corporate sponsors will NOT be paying us travelling costs to the new location.
We'll probably revert to a 5-day week from the start of the next academic year, though, since the powers-that-be will undoubtedly expect us to move from where we are now to fairly near the new location of the school by that time.
What do I do? Laugh, cry, cringe or all three?
Well, actually, it's not as bad as all that. My parents-in-law live in the same district where the school will have its new location, so my wife and I will simply relocate to their place. We have a mortgage on our current property, but we are hoping to rent it to a couple currently visiting the city but who are based in the USA. Apparently, they have business dealings here and they want a base from which to conduct their operations.
In any case, my wife is delighted by the news of the impending relocation: her own place of work is just ten minutes' drive away! |

If you advertise a Master's degree, you should really be careful about spelling mistakes, even here. They are usually distinguishable from typos. (unless you want people to doubt your degree)
Just trying to be helpful... |

My degree is in German so I guess that lets me off the hook when it comes to spelling mistakes in English. |

Not if you're applying for a job as an English teacher... |

Except that Master's degrees are a dime a dozen these days. |

So why did you get one? You're not using it now. Do you ever plan to teach German?
Or did you get your Master's degree simply because it was very inexpensive, you got a graduate teaching assistantship to make it even more inexpensive, and now you can tell everyone you have a Master's degree? |

Well just like a lot of things in life, people sometimes do things because that is what other people are doing. I am sure that many people who get their MA's straight after undergrad do it because they don't really know what else to do. I would say that people who have worked for a while and came back are in grad school because they are interested in the subject but who knows about the motivation of younger people. |
