Thanks Carnac for doing the hard work to confirm the opinion that most of us had reached through our own prejudices. Laughing

Can't wait for this backpacker's next opus.
"There I was, my flimsy aircraft having just landed in Nepal, launching into a world of trepidation and ghee. I tried to hire a taxi and was surprised that no one spoke English! I hired my own car and set off intrepidly for the village where I was supposed to be teaching. I had no map, but since I'm a total idiot, I was not deterred and promptly lost myself in the surrounding mountains where bandits fed me a delightful dinner of sheep's brains and chicken offal. My smiling behavior soon convinced them not to shoot my stupid brains out."
Geez.

DOH????????

Do you people just not GET IT!!!!!!!!
the origin of this thread was so blatantly obvious - the guy wants to sell his book - SO he (or some so-called friend) promotes the work and invites comments.

Yoos lot just fall into line (as I did, I will admit) and remark upon the content.)

The longer this thread is expanded, the more people will be exposed to this non-literary crud - (Oh yes, I use the word "literary" in its very broadest sense!!) More fool you, more fool me.

Moderator!!! close this - lock it out before we become the agents for the author, AUTHOR!!!(oh my what a wasted description of a failed wannabee writer!!)

Has anybody read a post from this person?? I rest my case

Gee, Duffy, what a party-pooper! And just when there was the potential for some fun at the expense of the "book".
Look at it this way: I was told that "Waterworld" and "Ishtar" vied for "Worst Films Ever", so I just HAD to buy them and watch. And, yes, they're right up (or down) there with "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes". (Ishtar was/is truly baddd!) And they are now part of my film collection, a part I enjoy inflicting on (close) friends with plenty of before-hand caveats.
People should buy this book, or at least borrow it, so they can learn how not to write a travel/personal experience book - and also because it's just so much fun trashing it.
Reductio ad absurdam.
A colleague worked with this guy. He ordered and semi-read the book on this basis. Has not finished it, mumbling phrases like "rising gorge" and "Yeccch". But plans eventually to finish it, if for no other reason than to be able to point out to others the book's inadequacies, both stylistic and factual.
While in no way do I recommend this book, if you (in the plural - y'all?) read it you (plural) will know why we trash it.
If you never read it, you will never know, and will draw your own conclusions only from these postings.
Contest: Write a satire of this book, perhaps of only one page.
"A house in the middle of the road"??
Truly duh.

What has happened to the OP? It would be nice to clear this business up once and for all. Though I must say we haven't been the gentlest literary critics. It is very brave to self-publish a book that was, most likely, rejected by publishers that would charge a remotely reasonable price for the book. But it sounds like some editing beforehand might have been a good idea.
